It will be interesting to see if the show will be uncut and uncensored, or if they will cut anything out. It will also be interesting to see what the sound quality is like. I hope it is as good as his other live cd's. Now if he could only figure out a way to give us live DVD's that would be ultra cool.
but then again I would take Live By The Bay on DVD and be happy.

Bring me the hot sauce, bring me a beer. Going to be the last man standing, but where do you go from here?

Do you know if that was the guy filming at the Camden show? I had thought maybe they needed additional footage for "5 O'Clock", but I didn't see Camden in the video. He was filming the audience.Anonymous wrote:These are going to be great recordings.
The staff from Radio Margaritaville had test-recorded the entire last leg. These will be straight from the sound board.
I wish Jimmy would make those test concerts available, even if it a little bit from this one, a little bit from that.
More wagging, less barking.

I'm a big Phish and Grateful Dead fan in addition to being a Parrothead. I've been enjoying Live Phish releases for some time now and loved the Dead's new series of concert releases this summer. I had to wonder how long it would be before Buffett got in on the act. In the case of both Phish and Grateful Dead, there isn't much editing done. These CDs sound really great, but generally aren't quite as cleaned up as what I term "studio live releases" a la "Feeding Frenzy." The charm is hearing some imperfections as if you were really at the show.
I'm really excited about this series and I hope that much like Phish, Buffett goes back into the catalog for some "From the Vault" releases.

Best Buy and Tower Records are also listing these collections so they look legit.
Tower Records is also listing "Millennium Collection:20th Century..." here. Maybe this is a collection of some older shows? Here's to hoping.
I have friends who are Deadheads and Phisheads and I've always been jealous of the flow of music they received. I would love to see Jimmy do an online site to sell concerts like http://www.livephish.com. Then you could buy all of the shows you were at and any with rare tracks in them. Or you could be obsessive like I would be and buy them all.
I most excited about these discs because we will get perfect copies of 2 unreleased tracks (Natives Are Restless & Tiki Bar Is Open), Buffett's version of 5 O'Clock Somewhere, plus radically reworked versions of Why Don't We Get Drunk, Mexico, and hopefully She's Got You. Hopefully there will be some surprises too. I'm sure if he's planning to release all 6, he will make them all pretty different. He's been mixing up the setlist this year more than any year since I started going in 91.
It's interesting to know that he recorded the August leg. Let me put in my request for 8/23 Tinley Park right now!

Question
What is to stop people from simply recording these off of Radio Margaritaville???
Re: Question
People do record off of RM but I can't remember a completely "clean" broadcast in quite a while. Coincidence or not???Bwana Paul wrote:What is to stop people from simply recording these off of Radio Margaritaville???

Someone else pointed out that Radio Margaritaville doesn't exactly offer the best quality - 128 mbps at best if I'm not mistaken. People do record from RM and even *gasp* sell them on eBay. But one only needs to turn to LivePhish.com or the Dead's official summer concert recordings to hear the difference in the quality.
Like I said earlier, Phish's and the Dead's recordings are polished like major-label live releases, but they much, much better than audience recordings or internet broadcasts of the shows.
It simply depends on what the listener can put up with. As much as I love RM, it hurts my ears and gives me a headache after an or so of listening. The clarity just isn't there to keep me happy for extended periods of time - especially not through a full concert. (Its great for background music at work though!)
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to be "forced" to buy the entire leg - different setlists or not. There will be enough geographical references and humor to make it worthwhile.

Coincidence... considering all the opportunities for things to go wrong, RM does a pretty good job.ejr wrote:People do record off of RM but I can't remember a completely "clean" broadcast in quite a while. But the BEST quality you're going to get from a streamed broadcast is still going to pale beside a live soundboard recording. Streaming requires so much compression that it's NEVER going to have the fidelity of the tape.

I think this is a great idea!! I recorded most of last years tour, but didnt take the time to cut up and burn all of them. I have not recorded any of this summers tour.
I think this will also bring more variety in the set list.
IMHO, soundboard recording with no studio polish is the best way to listen to a live recording. Its like a snapshot in time.
Little Feat has allowed fans to record from the soundboard for years. The band has also started releasing live recordings on there own label.

Anyone think Jimmy might pursue some special guests to appear during these shows to spike sales of the CD's???? These shows will be interesting to listen to (and attend the Vegas show
) I just have a feeling Jimmy is gonna make these shows so special that I'm gonna have to order all 6! Better start preparing budget wise right now!
Both The Who and Peter Gabriel did the same this for their last tour, through themusic.com. Pearl Jam has also released enitre tours in the past.
In Boston Clear Channel is testing a live CD option at certain club shows in where CD's are available in about 20 min after the show. They said if successful it would be rolled out nationwide.
