Sail on Warren Zevon

Post by livingstonbob »

Sorry that this is off topic.

If you haven't heard, Warren Zevon died over the weekend. He had quite a fight with lung cancer and lived a lot longer than the three months they gave him. Just long enough to finish his last album. I believe it's called Wind. His rendition of Knockin on Heaven's Door brings tears to your eyes.

Sail on Mr. Zevon.

Sad news. I know he lived a lot longer than the doctors thought he would. He will be missed.

Even tho we all knew this was coming, it is still sad to lose him. :(

And yes Bob, that release is titled "The Wind" and it is an excellent album! The tears may start on "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", but they will stream on the last cut: "Keep Me In Your Heart" ...

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

very sad news-would not be surprised to see David Letterman rerun the hour he did with Warren as the only guest.

I loved this from the LA Times story on this great artist's passing: "I feel the opposite of regret," he said then. "I was the hardest-living rocker on my block for a while. I was a malfunctioning rummy for a while and running away for a while. Then for 18 years I was a sober dad of some amazing kids. Hey, I feel like I've lived a couple of lives — and now when people listen to the music, they'll say, 'Hey, maybe the guy wasn't being so morbid after all.' "

Didn't he write (or perform) "Werewolves of London" ? I love that song....whenever we go where Tall Paul is playing, we request that he sings it and he does a GREAT job!!!

Keep Me In Your Heart – Warren Zevon
Written by Warren Zevon and Jorge Calderon

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath,
Keep me in your heart for awhile.
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less,
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun,
Keep me in your heart for awhile.
Theres a train leaving nightly called "when all is said and done",
Keep me in your heart for awhile.

Sha la la la laaa la la la la la lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha la la la laaa la la la la lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sometimes when your doing simple things around the house,
Maybe you'll think of me and smile.
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse,
Keep me in your heart for awhile.

Hold me in your thoughts,
Take me to your dreams,
Touch me as I fall into view,
And when the winter comes,
Keep the fires lit,
And I will be right next to you.

Engine drivers headed north to 'pleasant stream',
Keep me in your heart for awhile.
These wheels keep turning but they’re running out of steam,
Keep me in your heart for awhile.

Sha la la la laaa la la la la la lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha la la la laaa la la la la lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sail on Warren

It kind of reminds us of our mortality when someone who has entertained us, become almost a friend without ever meeting personaly, passes through life and checks out early.

Sail on friend, I'll play my six string tonite in your memory.

Here's hoping that Jimmy plays Lawyers, Guns, and Money as a tribute to Warren on the west coast swing. His version at the Millenium concert was awesome!
