You know what's really cool...

...…After almost 30 year of following JB, attending a concert or two each year, buying records and CD’s, driving around with tapes and now CD’s in the car and with very little radio airplay and just about zero TV coverage, I can turn on CMT and see JB performing a #1 hit. I can also tune in and hear his voice on the radio again, albeit a country station. …Right back where it all started for him. I just think this is really cool. Who would have thunk it!!!!! Life is good! Sea ya!

Yes it is really cool. I can't wait for the CMA's!

I know I'm gonna get flak for this but it doesn't annoy me that JB gets little airplay. I consider myself part of a semi exclusive group of people who enjoy his music. The public's taste is of no interest to me. I don't consider the tune with AJ a true JB tune cause, unless I'm wrong, he didn't write it and all he makes is a cameo. To me it's just marketing/hype.

I'm sure JB is happy about this or he would not do the CMA. AJ is a cool guy and loves JB's music. I understand how you might feel, for most of us the music is enough. I will say that I've had a lot people say to me, I know you have seen the video, man I love that song, saw your guy on CMT, its five o'clock somewhere, and about every other way you can think of, all to say, what a great song, glad he is getting recognition. Lets just let Jimmy enjoy the ride, after all it gives us a chance to say we tried to tell you, and whats wrong with that!

You have to admit that "Five O'Clock Somewhere" would definitely not be the same without WWJBD. I don't think it would have been such a big hit....much as I love AJ. I'm really happy about all the success of a great tune but I can't help but wonder about all the people that will now jump on the band wagon and how much more difficult it will be to get tix to Bubba's shows for those of us that have been around all these years. It's kinda like driving my Jeep Wrangler around....you get a little wave or head nod as you pass another Wrangler, a sort of private club that noone else really knows about. I guess I'm a little sad that Jimmy may not be "our little secret" any more.

Just my $.02 here, but it can work the other way as well. Maybe some AJ fans are worried all of us Parrotheads will suddenly want to see AJ in concert. ;-) Not as far off as one might think. I bought AJ's greatest hits just to get Five O'clock and enjoy listening to most of it. I'd probably go see him if he appeared close. In fact, I've actully programmed some country music stations into my car radio and surprisingly, it's not bad.

Then again, I doubt I 'll turn into a big fan. The same may be said of those jumping on the bandwagon. They may be here now -- or even the next year, but they'll jump off again as soon as the next "big thing" comes along.

I think Ticketmaster and the brokers are a bigger deterrent to getting tickets to the fans, but that's a debate for another day.

Just remember you can always say "I knew Jimmy Buffett when...."

Enjoy the music, enjoy life and enjoy the weekend!

It's 5 O'clock somewhere..........

They're now playing more than 5 o'clock on our S.E. Florida country
station, 99.9 KSS FM. During afternoon drive several tunes from SYKBH
pop up regularly, although they never did pre-5 o'clock. As always,

Most "country music" or what they call country music nowadays is nothing but a formula. Take a little bit of sentimental feelings, the passing of a love, some drinking, a pinch of steel guitar, and 3:00min or less.. put into a blender. When mixed pour into the mold of the week and bake. When done if its a male put on a white cowboy hat, some boots and a pair of tight levis.. conjur up a safe name in the corporate office, and put on sale in wal mart. If its female give her straight hair, perky........s, tight levis, and put on sale in wal mart.

Now don't get upset with me...., going to high school in the 1970's I have a soft spot for The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Poco, The Pure Prairie League Panama Red... Panama Red.. it'll steal your woman, then it'll rob your head..... 8) Jonathen Edwards, The Outlaws, The Charlie Daniels Band.... so on and so forth. I think the 70's "southern" rock movement had more in common with country music then todays new country. Where are the Willie Nelsons, or the Hank Williams Sr or Jr, Marty Robbins' on todays playlists? Nowhere.. they aren't safe generic formulated country music. Today's country stations could be the "lite" stations with a steel guitar or fiddle and without the Barry Manilow fluff

Which brings me to Bubba.. I like his earlier accoustic, steel guitar, harmonica, type music the best. He went to Paris.. classic, Why don't we get drunk... lived it, Pirate @ 40.. Havana Daydreamin'.... Lone Palm.. Lovely Cruise. Then shift into high gear with Livingston Sat. night listen to the sound of the hot country band... boot heals shufflin' on the dance floor sand... whoooh nelly... on second thought that might be too much for "todays country" fans to deal with LOL

I guess that this rambling disjointed post has to have a point.. so here it is..... the corporations that own all the radio stations and recording companys will keep on cooking up formulas and spoonfeeding the drones with formats that make them money, when 5 O'Clock somewhere runs its course, which it will, and if JB doesn't make that country duet album, his music will fade from the playlists and back into our cd players where its comfortably right at home. And thats just fine with me.

Tom steps off soap box..
