High Noon- Jimmy Buffett Connection

Ok friends and neighbors this is a stretch. Today marks the untimely passing of Sheb Wooley who played one of the Miller brothers in the classic western with Gary Cooper & Grace Kelley. Actually Wooley's character was Ben Miller, the drunken member of the assassins who had the hots for Grace Kelley (Amy Kane). He actually gives away the position of the bad boys as they prepare to ambush Will Kane.
I digress. Wooley was also a singer-songwriter who gave us the classic- "Purple People Eater". Jimmy's cover version appears in "Contact" the 1997 must see flick starring Jodi Foster.
A nice day's work.

I had the honor of meeting Sheb in 1987. He was one of the most down to Earth people I've met. Funny as h*ll too.
Sail on Sheb!

I posted this same thing yesterday at the MSC roadtrip to D-W during our discussions. I only made this connection because I happened to watch High Noon on Monday for the first time and noticed that Sheb Wooley was in it.

I guess we got kind of a Mexican standoff. You take Sheb Wooley & I'll take Grace Kelley & Kathy Jurado.

Just a little trivia: Sheb Wooley recorded a string of country albums under the name of "Ben Colder". These were usually comedy/satirical records.
He was also one of the head writers on "Hee Haw" and wrote many of the songs and skits made famous on that show, like "Where, Oh Where (Are You Tonight)" and (my favorite) "Gloom, Dispair and Misery, Oh Me".
He was voted "Comedian of the Year" by the CMA a couple of times.
Enjoyed both his music and his movies. I'm sorry to hear that he's gone.
