parrotheads from utah.....
.....must be a lonely bunch. they seem to have a need to pull out their cell phones every 5 minutes and tell somebody what a great time their having.
yes i did pay attention to the show, but all of this other stuff is going on around me, and it makes you wonder why anybody would pay $200 for a show they don't seem interested in.

:::PARROTHEAD FROM UTAH HERE::::
Didn't make it to the Vegas show, but wouldn't have taken my cell phone....well, I would have, but certainly wouldn't have used it.
Just curious, how do you know they were from Utah?
Lots of wives, horns, RULDS T-shirts?

I spent over a month in Salt Lake City for the Olympics last year. Very frightening place to be. Here are a few facts for those of you not familair with Salt Lake City & Utah:pbans wrote:Yep, since the Olympics came to town a couple years ago.....the state has gone to Helen A. 1. The Mormon Tabernacle and the Temple are at the center of SLC. All streets are are numbered from this origin. For instance, my apartment was at 3600 South, 2200 West, thus I always knew exactly how far I was from the Temple at any given point in the city
2. Beer is is only 3.2% (unless you go to a private club, see #3)
3. Places that serve alcohol fall into two categories - restaurants and private clubs. If you want to drink in a private club, you have to either buy a membership or have an existing member sponsor you.
4. Last call at restaurants is midnight, last call at private clubs is 12:30am
5. If you get mixed drinks, they have this special spout on the bottles that pours out exactly one liquid ounce, so no such thing as a stiff drink.
6. I don't remember exactly what this rule is, but you're not allowed to have mixed drinks with more than two (or maybe it was three) different kinds of alcohol in it. So, things like Red Death or Long Island Iced Teas are not allowed to be served.
7. Programs such as Saturday Night Live are not broadcasted because they are too risque. (Mormon Church owns Boneville International who owns the local NBC affiliate KSL).
8. IT'S FRIGGIN' COLD OUT THERE!!
I could go on, but this should be enough to give you a taste of Utah life. Needless to say I was quite happy when the Olympics were over and I got out of there!

Actually the state is one big speakeasy.
But I tell you one thing, when I went to the emergency room in Vernal, I was treated good and was in and out. In the east you wait about 4 hours and have to put up with a hostile environment. For quality of life I like Utah. But wouldn't want to live there since I need the Ocean, Broadway, drinkwhen I want to, rent a NR movie, talk about the freedom to consider Darwin without being executed, etc.

Waynes tried and true method of getting into "clubs" in Utah
(remember I only live 5 hours away)
I'm with the band
If no band in "club" I'm a road agent for traveling bands coming through
the area and I'm scouting for a Nite spot after the concert.
Trust me instant free membership and most times free drinks
and introductions to other folks. It works for me

1. Salt Lake City is numbered that way.....since it was settled by Mormon pioneers....I guess they got to choose a way that made sense to them. The rest of the state is pretty much numbered on a "grid" system that starts at the center of the town. Weird addresses, but a very easy way to locate things once you know how it works.
2. Beer is only 3.2%.......unless you buy it at a liquor store (which the state owns....hmmmm)
3. There are "beer bars" that serve aforementioned 3.2 beer without memberships or hassles....just requires ID! It's not that difficult getting in to a private club.....
4. Last call....no defense there! That's when you end up back at my house!
5. Metered drinks....yep, one ounce per drink and one drink (at a time) per customer....
6. you can have as many "kinds" of alcohol in a drink as you want....just no more than one ounce of hard liquor per drink.....
7. The "risque" shows are usually picked up by another affiliate or just shown later at night....I've watched SNL for as long as it's been on....sigh, remember how funny the original "Not Ready for Primetime Players" were?
8. IT'S ONLY COLD IN THE WINTER....hence, the WINTER Olympics! The summers are magnificent......
I've lived here my adult life and LOVE it....and no, I'm not a Mormon and I don't play one on TV! The beauty of this state is beyond compare....Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, Arches National Park, Lake Powell National Park....the mountains, the desert.....the fact that I can be at either in less than thirty minutes!
I can take a ribbing and will certainly not hesitate to poke at Utah weirdness (there's PLENTY of it)....but it's an amazing place to live. And I manage to get myself pretty trashed when ever I want to!

Wish I'd known about a tour bus going to buffett.....talk about the ultimate road trip! Maybe next time......and I'll leave my cell phone in my pocket....or if I use it, I'll tell you I'm from Idaho. Thanks for the clarifications. My mind is still not right due to the emotional scarring from my stay out there. My therapist says in a few years I might again become a functional member of society

Utah Parrotheads
I've been a Parrothead since 1979 and I've lived in Utah since 1973 so I allow me to point out a few things about Utah.
1st. You can get Long Island Ice Tea, etc. at any private club. It's a little odd, but it's certainly not unique. Look at Texas where it's county by county wet and dry. Or Oklahoma where the clubs have lockers for your bottle that you brought. There are a number of states with equally silly liquor laws. And of course Lynchburg TN. where Jack Daniels is distilled is a dry county!
2nd. The street number system is actual great because you don't have to worry about finding where a street is located. Have you ever been to Atlanta and been told that it's down on Peachtree? Is that Peachtree Lane, Street, Ave., Blvd and is it in Norcross, Atlanta, etc.?
3rd. It's cold in the winter, well some winters, hence the wonderful skiing, boarding, bobsledding, ski jumping, ice skating and assorted other winter sports.
4th. In the summer you have great hiking, biking, four wheeling, horseback riding, camping, boating, parasailing, rock climbing, playing in sand dunes and some really beautiful countryside to explore.
5th. There are some great places to eat and lots of fun clubs and last call varies from club to club and town to town depending on local customs.
6th. And yes, there are some folks who don't know when to put away the cell phone, just like everywhere else.
7th. Now you have missed out on some of the "important cultural" aspects of Utah if you haven't had green jello with carrot peels in it. And there aren't many places where you will see so many blonde, blue eyed people. Plus family names such as LaVerl and Nephi and everyone is brother or sister so and so. And this is the only place in the world where Jews are Gentiles!
Utah is different but trust me the idea that you can't get a drink here or party is a myth of the past.

I know there are many non LDS folks on the site and although
I grew up "in The Church" and nolonger attend I must say a couple of things.
1. Utah has some things that are backwards to us. ( Remember I live just next door).
2. Not one of the pholks that live in Utah has said one word about Salt Lake at Christmas. I mean you pholks probably are used to it
but the lights of Salty City are great. And I've just seen the pics.
3 Salt Lake has a Movie Theater that serves BEER How cool is that???
4. The zoo is awsome, Almost as big and clean as Denvers, and the
animals are active not lying around or hiding.
I mean I poke fun also but there are many things I love about Utah
We make at least 3 roadtrips a year down there.
5 Ya gotta give the pholks in Utah a break, I mean look how close they
live to the Kreimlin.
