Umm...I think what you are getting at has come up in this thread:

At the risk of repeating myself, I know of at least one instance where this is possible....when it is half past twelve on the west coast of North America, it is five o'clock on the island of Newfoundland (trust me, I grew up there and the time zone is GMT minus 3 1/2 hours.)
Incidently, during the 2000 Montesori School Benefit Concert, Jimmy makes mention of his "northern roots" in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, where his grandfather's family came from - "demented sailor people" he called them.

Thanks for that reference. Ya know, inquiring minds want to KNOW!
It is interesting how a little technical point can lead to a learning experience.

I went to this world time server site:

I clicked on Labrador exception and see exactly what you were talking about. 9:58 vs. 10:28

..and of course the implication of the lyrics is that it's AT LEAST 5 o'clock somewhere (meaning it's late enough to commence drinking), unless, of course, you only drink from 5:00:00 to 5:00:59....

It is 5 o'clock in Margaritaville!...
and Margaritaville is Somewhere...THEREFORE.....
No need to pursue it any further.
