And maybe more appropriately, people are tired of the Yankees... People might be interested in the World Series because of the Marlins...the whole underdog thing... Otherwise, most of the country outside of NY doesn't give two sh*ts about the Yankees anymore... :-? (Not being confrontational here either)

BOR & kitty-
Do you two really think Boston would have been a bigger draw in viewership?
Talk about delusional!

your not being serious... are you? Maybe someone needs to watch more baseball and not just when there team makes the playoffs and World Series. Like BOR said it's the cockroach theory :D

sailingagain wrote:As happy as I am that the Yanks are up 2-1 at this point, I'm sure that last nights game will only serve to hurt the ratings the rest of the series as people have probably written off the Marlins now.
Um...wait a minute there... Cubs fans know what the Marlins can do when they are down a few games...

bottom line is this is MLB's worst nightmare. Cubs - Red Sox would have had Superbowl ratings for as many games as it went. Yankees - Marlins are currently drawing less than cable access shows. You can't deny that both the Yankees and Marlins deserve to be there, however the truth is very few care about a team that continually outspends everybody and wins and a team that all of a sudden draws 65,000+ plus fans when their avg. attendance during the year was 15,000.

I agree.....the Yankee-Boston series was probably the highest rated baseball viewing in recent history. I read somewhere that 85% of all tv sets in Boston were tuned to it during the games.

^^^^^^^

There really is not as much interest for the Yankee-Marlins series due to lack of excitment between the teams. I think the Yankee-Boston series WAS the world series.

Now back to FOOTBALL.

Just my view. 8)

well, judging from the amount of Yankee fans I have to deal with daily, as I am just 40 minutes from NY...there are a lot of people who care about watching the series....as far as anyone caring about the Yankees in the rest of the country, I am not so sure. I think people like to root for an underdog....so some may tune in in hopes that the marlins win. But someone randomly tuning in to root for a team that is so superior, unless you are a fan of the Yankees, is unlkely.

Oh, I absoultely agree! 8)
Although many of those viewers would be switching back and forth to CNN for news of the impending acocalypse!

Now that was funny

Personally I want the Yankees to lose but I am not watching the games and in fact I am enjoying having my nights free to play with and train my new puppy. As far as the TV ratings, the majorty of people watching the world Series are Marlins and Yankee fans, had the Cubs and/or Red Sox made it pure baseball fans and causual fans would have tuned in which. Example, I consider myself a Red Sox fan and a baseball fan but I have no intention of watching any of the world series, I am not avoiding it i just have better things to do but had it been a Cubs Yankees world series I would watch. Like I said last week the winner of Red sox Yankees game 7 would win the world series.

I've been watching the WS though I find myself flipping back and forth sometimes to different shows.. something I didn't do during the Red Sox/Yanks series. I watch because I want to see the Marlins win and the Yankees lose. I watch it every year anyway though no matter who is in it, just cause I love the game :D

Although I'm a Yankees AND Cubs fan, if the Red Sox had made it to the series and played anyone but the Cubs, I would have cheered for them. I consider myself a BASEBALL fan, and don't root AGAINST any particular team unless they're ahead of the Yankees or Cubs in the standings.
Last year, though I'm not a Giants or Angels fan, I did watch the world series, enjoyed it, and was sad to see it end.
because it meant winter was imminent

Agree on all counts.
And if the Cubbies were playing the Yankees, I would have been rooting for the Cubs. But usually, I am a NY fan, and a National League fan, in that order.

Thank you, Ceol.
Although I've been a Yankee fan FOREVER, I also would have cheered for the Cubs if things had worked out for them.
It would have been SO great to see those two teams in the W.S., just as it would have been great to see the Cubs and Red Sox in "the show."
Somehow I have a problem associating baseball with North Havana.
But-they beat the Giants and the Cubs (damn it), and do deserve to be there.

Farewell Roger, what a great career. Thought it was a special moment for the game of baseball when Roger ended the 7th and the Marlins and their fans showed their class in cheering for Roger. And then he came back out for a curtain call, bowing to the Marlins and tipping his hat, along with bowing to the crowd. It was a very nice moment I thought
