This isn't officially out until February 26th but you can preview a couple of tracks from it now
here. It's also available at shows and in very limited quantities through Kenny's
website by requesting more info about it through his mailing list. For those unfamiliar with Kenny, his group Six String Drag was one of several bands (including the V-Roys) that were signed to Steve Earle's E-Squared record label back in the 90's. Not long afterwards, the label folded, along with Six String Drag but Kenny continued to release solo records. One of which was touted by Ryan Adams in an NPR interview several years ago (the album was
Rather Not Know). I mention that not because I'm suggesting that anyone seek it out just because Ryan mentioned it but because it's a damn good record. Six String Drag, along with the Backsliders were a huge part of the Triangle area music scene back when Whiskeytown (Ryan Adams' band) was starting to get a lot of notice. Though they were equally deserving of the same sort of fame that soon came Whiskeytown's way, Six String Drag and the Backsliders never enjoyed the same level of success. This new album is very quiet and a pretty radical departure from Kenny's other records (as well as his work with Six String Drag). I'd put it in the late night, early Sunday morning category. A very compelling listen that will keep you coming back for more. And no, I'm not part of the Kenny Roby street team (if there even is such a thing), however, I am a huge fan of his work and this record.
