Maybe a Grammy?

So I went to vote today and discovered, for what it's worth, that JB and AJ made the first round of nominations in the "Best Country Collaboration With Vocals" category of the Grammys.

First round isn't much of a benchmark - there are 67 other nominees and those will get whittled down in the second round to the 5 final nominees..

But hey - it's a start.

:)

Hey Lee, does one have to be an "insider" of sorts to get the nominee information? Just curious, that kind of thing interests me. Thanks.

Not sure. I know they release the names of the nominees after the second round, but not sure if the first round ballot is public info or not.

Thanks Lee! I didn't even know the Grammy's had such a category! Being on the ballot combined with last night's win, seem like a very promising start! Why the heck not? May as well go for a two-for!

When exactly are the Grammy's?

That seems like such a particular category - I can't imagine that they wouldn't win. Is there a Best Country Song in the Grammys? Why wouldn't they be nominated for that? I would think winning the CMA, they would be a lock for the Grammys as well, but then what do i know.

Very cool to have a Grammy voter here!

As for it being a lock on the Grammy's because it won a CMA, they are 2 very different audiences. CMA's are primarily Nashville industry and country radio. Grammy voters come from all genres of music and have more NY and LA influences.

I knew once but can't remember - do all Grammy voters vote in all categories? I was thinking that at some point, you have to declare your "area" and you only get to vote in certain categories, but I could be confused.

Thanks for that information, it is great that we have someone with your connections and knowledge. I couild see them making the final 5, after that all we can do is hope for the best. Let us know how it goes, again thanks.

You're only supposed to only vote in the categories you have some knowledge in (it's on the honor system), and you're only allowed to vote in a total of 9 of the 26 fields. You never have to declare which ones you're voting in, so it can change from year to year.

And yeah, CMAs aren't much of an indicator for the Grammys. Grammys are (minus the influence of the labels who recruit voting members to their teams) generally based on the quality of the music and the writing, and less on the hit status. Although this doesn't explain why Train has a Grammy... nothing's perfect I guess...
