Hey, it's your favorite "Buffet" critic!
Hello all,
I felt like I wanted to come here to kind of explain why I wrote my anti-JB article. One of your members hit the nail on the head, sort of. I work for Kevin Matthews in Chicago, and Kev's show is funny, irreverent and actually stupid, but in a good way. Kev does like JB and will play him once in a while.
Kev's friend, Frank Salvato is a huge Parrothead, and Kev had the idea for a feature of KevHead.com, along the lines of Point/Counterpoint. He asked me if I liked JB, and I told him "not really", so he asked me to write the counterpoint article.
Now, while I don't particularly like Buffet, I don't exactly hate him either. It's just not my cup of tea. So, to write that article, and to give it a little pop (read: make it more interesting), I cranked up my dislike of him a few notches. While I can't say that everything I posted was fabrication, I can tell you that I respect the man and his empire, and I don't begrudge his fans for enjoying him to the extent they do. Honestly, my basically philosophy is that we all have different likes and interests, and if it floats your boat, but not mine, I really don't have any issue with it.
I respect how some of you reacted to my article, as fans of the man. I would have similar reactions if someone criticized my favorite artists. Some, however, were just plain ignorant (one simply said "F*** YOU DERRICK), but I expected a little of that reaction. For the record, most of the emails I got from KevHeads immediately after the article went up were in agreement with the article, but that's neither here nor there.
Lastly, I want everyone to know that you should be proud of the young Parrothead named Matt, who emailed me a very thoughtful, intelligent and even convincing email about why I was wrong and why he disagreed with me. I was very impressed with this young man's heart and intelligence, and it has changed my view of hardcore Parrotheads in general. Thanks Matt.
If you read this far, thanks for hearing me out. I apologize for any hard feelings I may have caused by my article. It was written purely for entertainment purposes, and not meant to be true piece of journalism.
Thank you,
Derrick Philips

P.S. One of my best friends is a huge Parrothead, and bought me 10th row seats a few years ago to witness it firsthand. Unfortunately, it didn't really do much for me, and I left halfway through to go home to watch the Bulls in the playoffs. So, I did give it a chance, it just wasn't for me.

You guys should put Matt on the show...
Or maybe the Jager song...

I appretiate you going out of your way to back up your article. Even though I may not agree with some of your point I respect your opinion and the fact that you at least gave it a chance. Maybe someday we will somehow convert you

Wow! Matt's reply was awesome! He expressed his compassion well beyond his years.
And I'm glad Derrick explained himself too. I figured that was the case... I was a Kevhead when he was on the Loop, but haven't found much listenable since he's been on CKG (right after Howard Stern). It was also nice of him to give Matt props as well.
This thread took a nice turn!
