Banned in Boston- Come Monday

If my memory serves you well me thinks that back in 1974 the DJs in Beantown put the kibosh on Jimmy's tune as soon as Dave Loggins' classic "Please Come to Boston " was released. If not for the 'curse' we never would have gotten even.

The local djs prematurely ended JB's number 1 song by pushing/playing the Dave Loggins tune. But for that, JB would have had a bigger hit!

I read somewhere that the song COME MONDAY was banned in England because of the reference to "HUSH PUPPIES". I never understood as hush puppies had always been shoes our mothers made us where when we were kids.
I assumed that hush puppies was a phrase that was in someway negative to the English culture. Maybe it was a military term ?? Hush Puppies being people who held secrets ???? Im sure in someway it had to do with keeping secrets against the British.
Oh well, that was just my guess, I really have no idea.

Here in the South (North Cackalackey to be specific), they're also a kind of food.
http://www.foodreference.com/html/fhushpuppies.html
Hush Puppies
A Southern U.S. specialty consisting of balls of cornmeal batter, seasoned with chopped onion, garlic, etc. and fried. The name supposedly originated when Southern hunters were gathered about the fire to cook the evening meal, and the dogs would start barking and begging for food. The cook would drop bits of corn meal batter and toss them to the hungry dogs with the admonition, 'hush, puppy!'"

I didn't mean to hijack my brother PH's Come Monday post. This post is meant solely to discuss the assertion that the Boston disc jockey's conspired to remove Come Monday from its rightful #1 status.

Now that I understand the question
I don't know why it got yanked. I do know that, at least in my book, it qualifies as "water under the bridge."

I'm sure that when you're calling the Brits weirdos, you're making a sweeping generalization, right?

I've never heard of General Ization and you must try the hush puppies at Ralph and Kacoo's. Is he a Brit somehow related to Ralph or Kacoo?

Hi guys - In response to the question of whether "Come Monday" was banned in England, I read somewhere once that the song was banned there briefly because the BBC had strict rules governing lyrics which contained any commercial brand names of products, etc. They had to quickly reword the lyrics to say "I got my hiking boots on" instead of "I got my hush puppies on". I would sure love to get my hands on a recording of that.
