and be sure to turn off and go down via Card Sound Rd.
Just have your money ready to cross the bridge, and be aware that the Elephant Steps make your car rock n roll like Mick Jagger on a three-day Viagra bender. Just before Card Sound Bridge, on your right, is Alabama Jack's. All types congregate there. I've seen the pictures of Cathy Lee Gifford singing there. It's a great part of the trip and not to be missed.

I'm turning left at the east end of Card Sound Rd. the first weekend in March. Got a big party to go to. :D
Yeah it is a toll road infront of AJ's, but worth the history tour.

No Name Pub on Big Pine Key.......great beer, great conch fritters, and you can check out the cute little tiny Key Deer, they're all over the place! We went there after a day of diving and boy it sure did hit the spot!! Enjoy your trip!! I wish I were heading down that way!

About 10 miles north of KW, on the left side (as you're driving north) is Babalu's--great southern food. You can eat and watch the jets fly in to NAS Key West

Check out this link http://members.aol.com/cafemojo/conch.html for tip on the drive down.

I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, but I'll be arriving in KW on 12/27. See you then!

I can't vouch for this place anymore, but it used to be the best seafood at the best prices in the Keys.

The Fish House in Key Largo, used to be a must stop on the drive down. First time there, Mrs Bear had a FLA Lobster basket and I had stone crab, we had conch fritters and mucho beer an scotch and are bill was less than $30, yeah that was 1985.

Looking at the web site, it seems to have gone commercial/tourist but it may still be worth a peek

Living in Homestead, I often drive over to the keys on a day off for some food or a day trip. I have a few favorite stopovers, however many of them change from year to year. In the upper keys, I often pop into Snappers...on the Straits side MM93 or so. Down in Islamorada, just past the boat dealer is Craigs. Not on the water, actually it is in a row of stores and shops, but one of the best fish sandwiches you can get in the keys. Past Craigs is a shop that is actually a co-op of local artists. It isn't open every day, but if you get there check it out. Some great stuff by local artists that you just can't get anywhere else. If it's your kind of thing, there is a place in Tavernier that sells hand painted garden pots. These are so cool you will want to get one and get a plant to put in there. Not sure when you're going, but for the Christmas season a store front (also in Tavernier) put up a huge Santa harnessed to 8 angel fish. Pretty cool. Of course, if you want to pop into the Chalks seaplane terminal in Miami and see a piece of history, let me know.

I wouldnt bother with the Southern Most Point, unless you like boring Rocks. We wasted three hours walking there and then back to our hotel, we where there about ohhh say 5 of the most boring minutes of my life, to make it work the girls we met came to our hotel to see if they could stay with us, since they got kicked out of theirs, we missed them and they drove home.

I watch the Raw Bar cam at Hog's Breath all the time.
It's a pick up bar, and it's fun to see who walks away with the prize and who strikes out!!

Go see Pete and Wayne for Happy Hour at Sloppy Joes. They are the masters of entertainment. And tell them Lee sent you... they love that.

Also make sure you see Michael McCloud at Schooners Wharf...

I am drawing a blank here, but I am thinking of one of Jimmy's songs where he lists some of the places on the way into KW. The Tavernier etc. Maybe I'm thinking of a live version.

Am I losing my mind? Any help would be appreciated as I plan my drive into KW in just 8 days to celebrate my 40th!
