First edition of Tales from Margaritaville?

Post by psychjava »

I'm collecting all of the first edition books JB has written, but don't have Tales From Margaritaville yet. What is the first printing of this book? I've seen several versions but they are 2nd or third printings.....what is the correct year for this book?

your help would be greatly appreciated from this book loving parrothead :-)

I'm trying to think (quite a stretch on a Saturday!)...I'm thinking it's very early 90's, because I remember where I was living at the time, and as soon as I heard that Jimmy Buffett had written a book, I went flying to the library to get it. They literally hadn't even unapacked it from the box it was shipped in. Needless to say, they unpacked it while I waited. I was the very first person EVER to read that copy of the book. Let me see what else I can dig up.... :D (would you like to know what kind of car I drove that year? Kidding.)

Since this topic is posted, I've got a quick question too. I bought what was advertised as a first addition of Joe Merchant from E-bay.. Now, how the heck to I tell that it's a first edition?

Auntie- Yeah, I think it was either 1989 or 1990???? You remember what kind of car you drive back then :-) good memory! So what kind of car was it?

NYC - it'll say in the copyright page what year it was copyrighted, and if it's the first edition there won't be any second printing, third printing, etc. in any of the text.

Each book comes with a series of numbers or letters at the bottom of the page...I think in Tales the letters are A B C D E.....

Auntie,

thanks for the link....1993.....okay, I'm glad I asked....looks like I was too early in my thinking of the copyright year.

Thanks for your help! Now my search for that first edition can be started!

All I recall is the 1st addition was a large hardback- bigger than whats on the shelves now. Same with Joe Merchant. Thankfully, I still have mine! Same with PLA50.

Castro is still playing in Cuba, but the homefield advantage isn't what it used to be.
