I have had my macbook for 4 years. The wifi is in the basement. I can use it anywhere in the house or I can take it outside and listen to RM while I am reading. I have the Office 2008 suite, and will not update it because I hate the new Office program that I have at work. The computers I have at work are Dells, as well as a laptop. The laptop has had multiple issues and is very slow. The Dell desktops are newer than my macbook and I am running into space issues. On my macbook, I have thousands of pictures and lots of music, and I will have plenty of space to go. The learning curve isn't that bad. Macs are pretty much immune to viruses since you need to enter your password with any software you install, as compared to the Windows. Two computers at work had multiple issues with viruses last year.
If you do decide to go laptop, the only advice I would offer, go to a store and play with them all. Each one has different keyboards. if you go and play, you can see what keyboard is comfortable. I don't think I would ever go back to a desktop computer at home ever again.

Did nobody notice that I, with the assistance or rum, was commenting on threads from 7 years ago?

The sticker on my car claims that the thing to blame is me.

unfortunately I missed it. A TV tray works great! The wife thinks I'm crazy. Especially when I take my guitar in there with the laptop. Great acoustics!

Didn't Jim Morrison do some of his best vocals while recording in the studio bathroom?

Either you like to look for 7 year old threads, or you are stalking Tiki Bar. Example 2:

Now that this thread has been resuscitated, does anybody remember what kind of computer that Tiki bought? How did she like it?

I just started on page 868 (or something) and started going forward. It was hilarious at the time.

Tiki Bar started this thread before I was a member of BN--no wonder I don't remember.

Yep--commented on it in the Sex and the City thread--thought it was odd to see a thread on that now. Felt I was in a time warp, but I guess there's a woman to blame

and some rum
