NO Tailgating for the Maui Show!!!
I just went to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center to confirm what I already knew. No fun whatsoever will be allowed in the parking lot of the MACC.
Once again you can thank my nemesis, the Maui County Liquor Comission for wrecking all the fun. I am desperately trying to put together a pre-show party before the JB concert where parrotheads can properly warm up (I'm already scheduled to play the night before in Lahaina). There are a couple of venues interested in hosting the phlock but want to know how many to expect. If you're coming to Maui and are interested let me know asap. There is literally nothing else going on if you can believe that. At least nothing I've heard of. Oh yeah, this is the Whaleshark Erik Pietsch. You can reach me on this board or at thewhaleshark@yahoo.com / www.thewhaleshark.com

Yeah, bummer on that. As for a pre concert PHlocking my suggestion would be Manana Garage; I spoke with Alan, one of the owners and I guess he's planning on a BIG night anyway; he's really close to the MACC so I'm sure he's going to be swamped as is. The other issue of course, if if you do something up in Lahaina or even in Wailea (i.e. isn't there a cheeseburger in paradise down there?) it's a long drive to the MACC, so it'd be great to find someplace close.
How about something on the beach? Oh, nope the liquor thing again.
Hmmn, well hopefully we can come up with something.

I was just at manana garage today to check the place out. It would be perfect with the only exception being rain. I don't want to get involved with tents personally but if the restaurant covered that... As of now I'm looking at Lulu's in Kihei and if all else fails, I'll play again at the Whales Tale with a coupleof other guys. Cheeseburger in Paradise is out for me. Not that fun, totally tourist, not affiliated with Jimmy, and they had legal issues with each other. (Not that it's my buisness). Plus I can't get away with my act over there, them-too corporate me-bit on the adult humor side. Email me and I'll get you my #. I could use the help especially if you have a contact at Manana. I'll call that guy (name is on his card in my truck- it escapes me at the moment) tomorrow. I have to go on stage at the Whales Tale in a hour (6-9). Stop up if you get a chance.

To jbfins, yeah can you believe that? In certain ways Maui isn't what it's cracked up to be. You can party waaaay harder on the mainland. (reason I tour). But hey, right now it's 85 and sunny and I'm off to Captain a whalewatch boat for the morning! So I'm not bitchin'
Jolena, Aloha! We won't be making it to Vegas unfortunately, but we'll be back on the road in march / april. Probably up by you for Alpine!

No tailgating - Maui Show
My husband and I just bought tickets for the Maui show. We'll be flying in on the 29th from Seattle for the concert.
Would love to know of a pre-party either the night of the concert or the night before. Or both!!

I'm imagining a "Whaleshark, Defender of Fun" comic book, depicting you in a never-ending battle with your evil nemesis! Keep fighting the good fight!Musashi wrote:Once again you can thank my nemesis, the Maui County Liquor Comission for wrecking all the fun.

My firend and I are flying in on Friday for the show and only staying Friday night. Are suggestions on where to stay? We would love to see part of the island, but are interested in pre-partying and staying near the venue. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Ale House
Actually the Ale house would be a good choice, but it's not really within walking distance. Probably a half an hour walk or thereabouts. Maybe less, across some pretty busy lanes of traffic.
Actually ale house would be a great place to park cars and take a bus over to the MACC. That might not be a bad idea. I wonder if we got a bunch of people together if we could get a bus to take us over and then drop us off afterwards?
As for Kimos... in Lahaina? Nice place but again a bus would be in order.

Re: NO Tailgating for the Maui Show!!!
That is great luck. But, I must be missing something: The Maui show is January 30. Isn't this Super Bowl weekend?brnkeux wrote:Well someone was smilin' on me. My wife & I & our two year old boy are at the Embassy Suites in Kaanaplai all that week. I planned the dates around the NFL playoffs off-week and look what happens. Jimmy appears, as if on command. I'm a veteran of about ten shows. This will be the smallest place I've seen him in. As far as pre-show party, a buddy of mine who lives in Makawao asks if anyone has considered The Ale House or Kimo's. He says both are within walking distance. I thought I'd throw out that idea. Anyone know?

Yup. But by flying Saturday to Saturday there's nothing to miss the weekend before & we get home the night before THE GAME. My wife is very understanding.
MauiP-
The only Kimo's I know is in Lahaina. The way my buddy emailed me he made it sound as if there was one nearby the MACC. Maybe we miscommunicated. He kinda liked Manana Garage OK. Something about good Margaritas which I guess would be right on the mark.

Welcome Erik! Great to see you on the boards! Sorry I missed you and Fingers when you were in Wisconsin last September....looking at Jolena's pics and hearing her stories sounds like I missed a great timeMusashi wrote:To jbfins, yeah can you believe that? Thanks for the update on tailgating...even though it is a Bummer!
Alas, this 100+ show Buffett veteran will gladly trade body surfing at the beach for the tailgate!
Sounds like a great time no matter what...but Erik, please keep us updated on any happenings...still looking for a late afternoon place to have a few pops before the show and catch up with Parrotheads!

Here's what I got...
OK, I will know almost for sure this afternoon whats going on Friday. For simplicity's sake, I'll probably have the pre-party at the Whales Tale from like 2-5:30. I'm going to try to get a bus (have to call this morning) to take everyone over to the show afterwards. There's a bunch interesed so it should work. I'll figure out prices etc later today. How do $1.99 Margaritas and Mai Tais sound? How about doubling for a dollar more? Erik
