If You Like Pina Coladas...

I'm sorry I gotta make this thread, but I've been searchin for an answer for the past 2 days now & I need some help, I'm completely new to Jimmy Buffets music

last weekend, I must have heard the Pina Colada song about 100 times, and I can't get enough of it. the mp3 on my computer is labelled, "Jimmy Buffet - Pina Colada"

I searched through all his discographies & stuff, but I can't find this song on any of his albums.

then I found out Rupert Holmes has a song by the same name, downloaded it, exact same song.

so my question is, does Jimmy Buffet actually have a Pina Colada song, or are there just mislabled lyrics/mp3's all over the net?

It's a Rupert Holmes song.

Not sure if Jimmy might have covered it at some point, but I don't *think* he recorded it.....

Now I have that song in my head!!!! :o   :P

I was really hopin Jimmy Buffet did it... I know this song is cheesy but Rupert Holmes sucks, Jimmy Buffet seems cool though

how can so many people get mixed up though? do a Google search for "Jimmy Buffet Pina Colada" and tons of results come up.

ah well. thanks for the info

That song was on Napster in it's heyday... It's not Jimmy, it's Rupert Holmes. Seems it got downloaded a lot because we have had this question before

I think the key is the spelling "Jimmy Buffet"... people who know better spell it correctly... "Buffett"

Although this song isn't in his reportoire, he is cool, and you should look into more of his stuff... the truth is out there!

I D/L'ed the "Jimmy Buffett" version of Escape (the Pina Coloda Song) from Napster way back when. It was, in fact the original version by Mr. Holmes. I have never heard or heard of a version by JB.

On Napster, It really only takes one guy to initially screw it up when it was entered. The song then got shared - along with the erroneous info - over and over and over, and so forth.

If you go into any file sharing site, and do a search on Buffett, you'll find tons of stuff that was inaccurately attributed to Bubba. Same with David Allan Coe, and I'm sure a ton of other artists.

I will say that a Buffett search on Audio Galaxy a few years back turned me on to Sunny Jim and Jim Morris - songs by those artists that were attributed to Buffett.

I've never downloaded a song online (not a moral thing, just that I'm still on dial up; don't laugh :) ) but it's my understanding that Aerosmith's "Dream On" has been falsely credited to Led Zeppelin. Perhaps one of the more notorious cases of mislabeling was the Gourds' version of Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Gin n' Juice", which was falsely identified as a Phish song. To further add to the confusion, Phish later started playing the song themselves.

For a cool article on the Gourds/Phish mix up, click here:

I get an email each week with a report of what people search for on my site using the Search tool. Every single week it never fails that someone searches for "Escape" or "The Pina Colada Song" or "If You Like Pina Coladas".

So I made a page that comes up as the first result when someone searches for any of those terms in hopes that it will straighten out the confusion

Good job!!! 8)
btw... Do you have one set up for the "I-95 Song" (Were You Born An _ _ _ hole") too? I think that is the second most commonly mis-labeled-as-Buffett song out there.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but there is a local bar here that has a jukebox that plays 45s. One Buffett selection on there: A Side: Margaritaville. B Side: The I-95 Song.

Chew on cinnamon sticks, or so an article about removing "earworms" recently said...
