Heres a quick question:
Due to the fact that booze (both at the bars and from the liquor store) is so pricey in Key West, I'm trying to find a good method for bringing a bottle or two from home (At places like the Duval street party and the beach at the Casa, I'm inclined to mix my own).
I know some folks who ship their booze to their hotel ahead of time. I also know that some pack it in their luggage. Does anyone else have any recommendations?

If you're flying into Lauderdale or Miami and driving down, here is a liquor store at the start of the keys that has reasonable prices - you won't get raped. You may want to just stop there on the way down.
If you're flying into Key West, I would recommend you just pack it with you. But pack carefully, last year my friend packed a bottle of rum in his bag, and not so carefully. It broke - so he spent the first afternoon doing laundry all day. It was scary!

Shipping can be a bear, some states and some carriers frown on transport of liquor across state lines. Packing it in the luggage is probably the best way to go, although it means you will automatically be checking your bags and hoping it makes it thru the carousel in one piece.Craiger wrote:Heres a quick question:

Personally, I would say it would be easier to pick it up in Miami (if you are flying there), and transporting it the last 180 miles.

I'm considering packing it in the luggage I check (unless the airline regualtions don't allow it). I know a few different companies (Captain Morgan comes to mind) have plastic travel bottles, so that might be the way to go.
Hell, I'll take it in my carry-on bag if I need to.

Driving down 95, whenit ends in Florida City and start heading down the key, it's on the right hand (west) side of the road just before the turn off for the road to Alabama Jacks. You have to watch for it because there's some trees there and if you blink you might miss it. I can't recall the name of it, but it's a liquor store attached to a shady looking bar.RinglingRingling wrote:what is the name of the place? and is it visible from A1A?Honey Do wrote:If you're flying into Lauderdale or Miami and driving down, here is a liquor store at the start of the keys that has reasonable prices - you won't get raped. Nifty! I didn't know there was a Publix down there. Do they sell the hard stuff? I seem to remember seeing wine & beer in their other stores...You can also go to the PUBLIX in Key West, on the airport side. That is usually our first stop before checking into the hotel.
I'm a Martini guy, so I gotta have my gin!

Beer and Wine only at Publix. They are located on the west side of the island near K-martCraiger wrote:Nifty! I didn't know there was a Publix down there. Do they sell the hard stuff?
