Question about Yout Had To Be There

I got this disc set for x-mas and what can I say, I'm addicted hehe I've listened to it at least once every day (usually like three times lol) since x-mas day. Anyway, who is playing the role of Morris' wife yelling at him in "Morris' Nightmare"?? It's such a great album, I wish there where more live albums from back then. Another question, I know this is two concerts, so it's probably missing some music from each show. Anyway, He comments to the audience "You're gonna get real hungry before this show's over, but we'll take care of that later" Also, at one point he goes "Now what was that song you where all yelling about?" and I swear I can hear people yelling "CHEESEBURGER" But he never sings it. Is that song just one that prolly never made the final cut from both of those shows?

Also, here are the live CD's that I have, are there any more live JB albums I can get on CD? Not bootlegs, actual releases.

I have:

Feeding Frenzy
YHTBT
TT&S
All Four Tiki Time discs (which are very good, but very different from the older stuff....I MISS FINGERS!)

Thanks

Earl

Hmmmmm..... I don't see Cheeseburger on the original vinyl. Surely he did it.
And despite infinite credits in the liner notes, I don't see any reference to Morris' wife's voice. Deborah McColl is the only female Coral Reefer named, so it may have been her.

CIP was definitely not on the album...While Deborah McColl was the backup reefer for those shows, it sounds more like Fingers Taylor to me...

The wife is a recorded voice so i'm not sure who that is. You can just here people in the crowd say Cheesebuger, but it's not on any version of the album. Just someone in the audience shouting it.

I'm almost certain it's a guy doing the role of the wife, just sounds that way, and when I hear it I think "fingers" for some reason. Is the vynl any different/better than the CD?

Only for those of us that were around for the vinyl version

I got both...I unfortunately never play the vinyl. Truth is it was only played once (and taped) because the virgin play was always the best and every play after that degraded the vinyl in some way (at least that was I was told)

It's meant to be used!! It annoys me when people buy stuff and never use it just out of fear that it will wear out...I say use, enjoy! But, hey, ya know, it's your deal hehe, plus the CD wont wear out so it doesnt really matter.

I have both CD and a couple copies of the vinyl and they are the same as far as I can tell.

Chances are he did CIP but the recording wasn't good. That was when he used to actually work with the final release of the album. Anyone familiar with the Allman Brothers knows the story of their live albums. How many songs they do any how that a lot of them never make to disc.

I picked the Vinyl up for $1 at the local Goodwill store. It was sitting in the front of a crate along with 4-5 other Buffett albums behind it. That was a good day to say the least! I have 20+ LP's (w/ duplicates), I'd say 1/3 came from Ebay and the other 2/3's I've picked up at Goodwills. I listen to all of them...I think the cracks on the record add to the experience since I was barely alive when LP's were the norm.

dude you are so right. Nothing, NOTHING beats the sound of vinyl. If you take care of them they are wonderful. I miss those crackling sounds and the extremely good sound quality of the recordings!

You Had to Be There

Ahh - What a great Christmas Present - "You Had To Be There" is one of the most underrated Buffett classics. There are countless Parrotheads - before they even knew they would later be called Parrotheads - that got their introduction to the music of Jimmy Buffett from this album/cassette. Certainly not the album you want your 5 year old Parakeet listening to in order to learn to appreciate Buffett music - but pretty good listening to remember how the party atmosphere was in the late 70s. YHTBT is really nostaligic and somewhat documentary especially if you are from the Atlanta area and remember when JB really spent alot of time in this town and really was a slim draw at the Great Southeast Music Hall and the Bistro.
It is hard to believe that "You Had To Be There" celebrated it's 25th Anniversary this past August - recorded live at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta and Gusman Hall in Miami during mid August 1978. I was kinda hoping JB would have had a 25th year commerative concert

Anyway, I have always heard the crowd to be yelling for several songs at the end of GrapeFruit/JuicyFruit - Jimmy asks "What's that song a couple of you guys were yelling for?" - the response was a mix of God's Own Drunk/Cheeseburger and the Lynyrd Skynyrd "FreeBird". Freebird at that time was kind of a Southern Anthem and still to this day alot of 40 and 50 year old drunk "southern boys" yell "Freebird" when they are having a flashback to when they were drunk teenagers. Anyway, There was a contingent of a bunch of drunk 20 year olds in one section of the Fox that was really hollering & screaming alot & getting out of hand - Primarly wanting to hear Gods Own Drunk. If you recall, earlier Jimmy had to tell the crowd "Look I'm in charge here and we're gonna run this goddamn thing - this is my ship" after the crowd got loud and interrupted him.

Jimmy did play Cheeseburger in Paradise as well as a few others from SOASOAS but recording probably wasn't that good & he probably didn't realize how popular the song would become. Besides, he's put it on all of the other live albums so at least it didn't take up space on YHTBT and left room for some less often heard classics such as Tampico Trauma and Landfall.
