Fire in Margaritaville Cancun!
Some unfortunate news from my friends in Cancun....(this happened Wed.)
Today at about 2:30PM an explosion rocked Plaza Flamingo home of Pat O'Brians, Outback Steak House, and Planet Hollywood.
Civil Defense officials at the scene reported that they believe that it was a Gas Explosion from one of the kitchens possibly Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville. Still an hour after the initial blast smoke continued to billow from most of the entrances and the mall was evacuated and closed.
Civil Defense Reported that several people were taken by Paramedics to local area hospitals but did not know the extent of the injuries at that time or whether they were locals, employees, or tourists.
Cancuns Emergency Management team from the Civil Defense went into action and emergency services were immediately mobilized to the scene as well as Transit Police to strategic locations throughout Downtown Cancun and the Hotel Zone to Facilitate movement of emergency vehicles onto and off of the island.
We expect to have more information and photos up and online tonight before 9PM with any success.

Apparently, everything is now open except the 2 clothing stores that burned down and conflicting reports that the Outback is still closed. However, I don't know if one of those store might actually BE Margaritaville.
Gonna have to hunt down some more info.

Ok now I am off the phone with my folks in Cancun.
The gift shop was destroyed but the restaurant was just fine.
A little smoke damage but was back open Thursday.
2 gift shops in the mall were destroyed but that was it.
Nobody was seriously injured but a few people were treated for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital.
Looks like Phin power was at work on Wednesday.

Fire
Hello All,
I am scubakevin and I wanted to update you all after I had a meeting at the Plaza Flamingo and with the folks at Margaritaville. I have some new fotos of the mall inside and some damage updates and they will be posted here at http://www.cancuntravelonline.com/news/fire2.php sometime on Saturday night.
The Mall suffered some damage as a result of the fire and 2 stores were completely destroyed. Originally reports were at the time of the incident that the explosion was in the kitchen of Margaritaville. This was not correct and actually the explosion was probably not an actual explosion but if any of you are firefighters you might have heard that incredible sound when someone opens a door during a fire and gives it a sudden surge of oxygen.
The 2 clothing stores were destroyed and there was water damage to some of the stores nearby the fire and there was extensive damage to the roof above the hallway in front of the stores as well as above the stores.
Jimmy Buffetts suffered some smoke and water damage to the clothing store as well as the restaurant. They were open for business the next day for restaurant as was Outback Steakhouse and Pat O'Brians.
Please feel free to visit the news section for updates.

Now if you read the post!
You would realize that the fire had nothing to do with restaurants...
Music too loud there?
