Jimmy and space themes

Time for a new topic!!

Ray Bradbury (author of The Martian Chronicles) stated he thought the Mars program suggested by Bush was great. Ray is 83. Mars manned landing is probably 30 years away. Ray stated he wanted to be buried in a tomato can on Mars.

I know that Jimmy likes space.

Facts:

1. Desdamona built a rocket ship
2. He sung "Mr. Spaceman" for a Muppets CD
3. He said, as he recieved his CMA, "It kinda of looks like a space ship"

I wondered if Jimmy has been a fan of Star Trek (Jimmy, a Trekkie?) or Star Wars. I wondered if he has been a fan of NASA?

What other songs can you think of that Jimmy has sung that makes him a space fan?

"Oh how I'd love to drive the shuttle, just to hear the engines roar."

I've talked to some people that believe he's a closet Trekkie. There's a few references to Star Trek in a couple of his songs. They escape me right now. One I can think of, "won't you beam me somewhere, Mr. Scott?"

They spent 90 jillion dollars, tryin' to get a look at Mars;
I hear universal laughter, ringin' out among the stars.

(He changed the lyric at the Maui show.. Something about 2 leggos was it? Anyone remember what he said?)

He was also in an HBO movie (I think) called from Earth to the Moon or something like that. Hell, I don't know.

This is an interesting topic because I've made comparrisons to Jimmy Buffett and Sammy Hagar a couple other times on this board about the similarities between the two artists other than the musical styles. Example, Both have their own tequila, restaurants, same age roughly, love for the beach life.etc. Now with Jimmy playing w/ Kenny Chesney and Sammy recently played with Toby Keith, both HUGE country artists is interesting you talk about the space theme. Hagar since his days with Montrose in the early 70's sang about space - "Space Station No. 5, w/ Van Halen - "Love Walks In" and his Marching to Mars record in 1997. The whole SPACE topic I never even thought about with Jimmy except maybe his facination with the moon.

I believe Buffett mentions having "phasers on stun" in one of his songs. Interesting comparison between Hagar and Buffett except I think Sammy went one step further when he said on Letterman one time that he was from another planet. Seriously.

I'm impressed with how Penny keeps the board on track, reminding people of former conversations. This was a very interesting thread that I missed back in October. Thanks!
