Spicolli question

Post by Earl »

On the first (washington-purple) tiki time disc, he says "We have never ever done this song on stage before" about spicolli...well, uh, yeah, they did...I've heard it on one of the buffett.ontheweb.nu shows, I think early 80s. So why did JB say that he never did that show live when he actually did in the past? Senior moment?

Perhaps he meant this edition of the CRB had never performed Spiccoli's Theme live. Many of the members in the current edition of the band weren't around when this song was first penned. Thus, they may never have performed it live.

Or, perhaps, as you pointed out, it was just a senior moment.

I just cut up a concert replay the other day, and Spiccoli was on there. I think it was from the late 90's. He does it, just not often.

He played Spicoli's Song during the 1982 Somewhere over china tour. He probaly didn't remember that, it has been 21 years.

It's a throwaway song at best but I must admit it provided a nice little flashback to the 80s when I heard it on the Vegas album. What could be next, "Hello, Texas" maybe?

I'm not sure if you're referring to "Hello, Texas" or "Spicoli's Theme" but I like both songs too. I'm just saying knowing what Buffett is capable of, that "Spicoli" isn't exactly up there with the best of his works. No denying it's a fun song, I have a 45 of it somewhere.

He's a liar!! Nah, just kiddin'...

Although... I do have a story of my own regarding JB and the telling of untruths to his fans. :P It was back at the 2001 East Hampton show he played at song called "Blue Telescope" by John Hiatt. During the intro to the song he claimed to never have sung it at a live show before, but that wasn't the case because that's how I knew the song in the first place. I had on it a JB bootleg that I had I bought on eBay 3-4 years earlier... :-?
