Hey stranger!!!! Where ya been??????[/quote]

Working way too hard! My time playing on the internet has been limited way too much.

Will you be attending Cinncy and Alpine this year? Joe Merchant and I plan to attend one of the two depending the schedule. Wish I could make both but I doubt I can pull that off. Hoping to make Alpine but Cinncy is good too especially if PHINMOBILE is there!

PHINMOBILE Rocks!!!

I've never been to Cincy, but have been to 8 other venues. Alpine ranks as number one....(Great Woods is number 2, by the way)

Least restrictive parking lot.
Best ampitheatre
Most enthusiastic parrotheads.

And at all of the other locations, I've seen people start arguements when someone tries to party with them...."THIS IS A PRIVATE PARTY! GET OUT!" THat never happens at Alpine.

Least restrictive parking lot: Define restrictive ?
Best ampitheatre Ditto
Most enthusiastic parrotheads Ditto again

I know this is a Cincy, Alpine, Chi thread but in the 10+ years I have been to Great Woods and the countless other places I have seen Buffett I have never had anyone tell me this nor have I ever heard of this being told to anyone in fact it is quite the opposite people are way to eager to get you to stop and party with them.

The guy that started this thread didn't want it turned into a Great Woods vs. Alpine thread. We don't need to start defending our personal favorite venue. Dr. Corona was just asking for advice on Indy, Cincy or Alpine... not Great Woods.

In my opinion, no matter where you go, it is all about who you associate with, what you do, what happens, who you meet, and how much fun you have. You could have a blast one year at one party, then not so much the next which may make you think a different location is better than another. All-in-all, I think it comes down to each individuals personal experience and what they actually did and who they met. I know that the fun I had came mainly from the people I met. Maybe it is fortunate that anytime I go to a different place, I meet more and more amazing people. I really have no doubts though that any buffett event will bring me some sort of experience that I will not want to forget or a person who I will always remember and keep in contact with. that is the beauty of Buffett and parrotheads.

I guess what I am trying to say is, no matter where you go, if you are in the right mind set and in a good mood, you will find the people that will make the day that much more special and you will have fun no matter what!

I still think Alpine was great though!

:D :D :D

I am not defending great woods, I was defending every venue I have been to. I am asking him to clearify his post. I was making a point that of all the places i have seen Buffett which includes great woods I have never heard anyone say to me "Go away it's a private party"
Personally I have never been to Alpine or Cincy so I am interested in what other have to say about them in case I plan a road trip myself.

I have been attending Cincinnati concerts for the last 14 years and have never been greeted rudely by fellow tailgaters. That doesn't mean it never happens but for the most part it's just like all other venues. I've been to all of the associated venues and I would say Cincy compares to Great Woods in terms of overall diehard enthusiam but on a smaller scale. I've never seen a tailgate the size of Great Woods anywhere. However, we had a hard time last year with a reduction of tailgating space. Hopefully that will not be a problem this year.

Although rare, it's unfortunate that some a-holes and otherwise annoying people go to Buffett shows... I think you could find them at every one if you looked hard enough... and sometimes you don't have to look very hard at all.

But in my limited experiences, they have been few and far between, and I have encountered 99% amazingly cool, happy, friendly, generous, enthusiastic phans. I think that has as much to do with luck as location.

However, there is an electrifying consuming energy at Alpine that I didn't feel at Tinley Park. I can't explain it, but it's hit me all 3 years I've gone there , and it's addicting! Not to say I didn't have fun at Tinley, because I did, even though I missed meeting the BNers. But you step onto the lot at Alpine and it's like a whirlwind of excitement.

But thanks to this thread, I'm thinking I have to give Cincy a try too... and what the heck, Indy too! :D 8)

We have never been to Indy, but hope to change that this summer.
Cincinnati is the home show; in 2002, we were surrounded by great people -- some even knew more lyrics than my hubby. But last year, the jerks talked about UK basketball throughout the entire concert. Great topic for the tailgate, but wrong during the concert. We ended up partying (before and after the show) in a field down a side road with some fantastic phans.
At Tinley, we found some great neighbors in the parking lot, so it really is who you are around.
Alpine was an experience that we plan on repeating this year. Great people and a super party.

So my list would probably be:
1. Cincinnati
2. Alpine
3. Tinley Park
but we have to go again to make sure.

thanks for the compliments!! I still have my Buffettnews Phriends nametag from Cincy 2001!! It goes to all of the shows with me!! Alpine is going to be a problem if it is on the 10th. The Phinmobile will be in Norwalk for a race that weekend. (It is actually a race car hauler) Shawn and I are still going to try to go though.... maybe we'll fly there. Cincy is a must!! If it falls on a race weekend we'll figure out something.

I misread the original question. We haven't been to Indy, but the other 3 venues all rock! I didn't like the way Alpine made us park. We couldn't form the "L" shaped area that we wanted, but it was still a blast. Tinnley Park security hated us when we first pulled in with the rig, but eventually warmed up to us. By the time the party was really rockin, the police were doing the limbo in their golf cart! Cincy has been the best by far to us. Restrictive? We brought our whole rig, porta pottys, 22,000lbs of sand, and teamed up with the CPHC for the day in Cincy. I don't think that can be beat! Yes, we'll be in Cincy in 2004!!!!

:-? Unfortunately, I've encountered quite a few people that have made it very clear that they don't want any intrusions into their party. I've had to go to 3 or 4 different groups of people before I found folks willing to share a bottle opener, or share an extra trash bag, etc... unfortunately, I think their are a lot of jerks everywhere and it has nothing to do with Buffett or the whole tailgaiting atmosphere. Luck and location is everything! And the bigger crew you associate with the better! (hint, hint...join the BN crew! )

Awww thanks! I wasn't complaining. I've had a wonderful time at all the shows I've been to. I just didn't want to gloss over the reality that some people are rude and snotty at the tailgates, and unfortunately I've run into plenty of them. :-? And I believe it's gonna happen anywhere at any venue.

btw... my vote's still for Alpine!
