How's the tailgating in Tampa?

Post by son of a beach »

The last couple of years I've been hitting the Orlando show where the tailgating is great but now that appears to be out of the question.
I've heard about the tailgating in Ft. Lauderdale or lack of.

How is the tailgating in Tampa? If it is not any good either maybe I'll just hit Lauderdale since there is more to do in the area.

I can't actually speak for the parking lot. I went last year and I can say that the bars and restaurants surrounding the Ice Palace are a pretty good time. Everyone knows of Newk's across the street that is a great time and there's also the Bayside area which I believe is in walking distance. Sorry, my memory is slipping. But there are some tropical themed restaurants there and they actually had a pre-concert party in the middle of all the dives. Hope that helps. Maybe someone can shed a little light on the actual parking lot. I can't wait to go back.

I went to go see the boss there with my parents and brother 2 years ago and we stayed at the Marriott (which has valet parking) and walked there, so I can’t really say anything about the parking lot, as I really don’t remember where it even is.

We might do the same for JB (I’m not sure if were staying over night because we live and hour away).

I went to Tampa last year and the tailgating started 5-10 blocks from the Ice Palace (nee St. Pete Times Forum) and was pretty rowdy/phun. Everybody was having a good time drinking too much tequila or not quite enough and freezing their tailfeathers off, as we had light drizzle and *cold* winds that day.

We hung out at one of the Forum-side indoor/outdoor bars and had a blast.

I can only compare Tampa to Orlando but when i have been there it's been a blast. Orlando is pure insanity and Tampa is right up there with it.

...... Hell i might be there again if Bubba wont throw Orlando a bone

As was stated, ther is no good "tailgating" at the Forum, but we'll have a hell of a party between Newks and the other bars. Check out finsup.com for party plans

I remember being surprised that we could walk around with cups on the street without any problem. Newk's is one hell of a crowded good time.

Tampa is alot of FUN!! There are a couple of parking areas to set up in although neither of them are too big. but they are alot of fun. There are several bars and restaraunts around, or near the arena. Newks is throws a great party. And it is just a short stumble over to the arena. If you go to Tampa you will have a blast. BTW-I did post a thread on this earlier, but just to let anyone know-The Holiday Inn Downtown has no vacancies. But it is Tampa and their are plenty of rooms around the city. We stayed at a hotel near Raymond James Stadium last year and took a cab to the arena. Not too far away, and not too pricey.

Bring me the hot sauce, bring me a beer. Going to be the last man standing, but where do you go from here?

We sat inside. One of they guys with us was too busy whining about how cold it was. I told him to drink a little more and he'd be warm but he wasn't buying it. We still had a great time.

I must confess though, if you have upper deck seats at Tampa you won't be able to understand a thing Jimmy says, you'll not be able to figure out what song he's playing for the first minute and a half and you'll need rappelling gear to get down to the entrance for a beer. :o
