Mayor Thomas M. Menino wants to bring Jimmy Buffett and 70,000 partying parrotheads to Fenway Park for two days of concerts next summer, the second big act to play the historic ballpark in a year.
City officials confirmed yesterday that the owners of the Red Sox have applied for entertainment licenses to stage two concerts, Sept. 10 and 12, with the singer-songwriter as the featured performer.
The Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing will hold a hearing March 22, but Menino, a Buffett fan, said he doesn't see any reason why the show can't go on. In fact, he said he wants to convert a neighborhood parking lot owned by the Red Sox into a "Parrothead Village," where fans can party all day if they want.
According to Cancro, the Red Sox are seeking an entertainment license for Friday, Sept. 10, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 12, they are seeking a license for 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
I assume we are talking about a 8:00 start on Friday and a 5:00 start on Sunday. Also looks like tickets for this show won't go on sale until early April, as the hearing is March 22nd. Most of the summer shows will go on sale March 20th
