The Passion of the Christ

Post by Allison »

If this discussion has already been started somewhere, I'm sorry, I checked but couldn't find it. Ok, so I know religious topics don't typically go over too well on here, and I'm not trying to start an uproar, but I just saw The Passion of the Christ and I was wondering if anybody else had seen it, and if so, what did you think of it..........

Just saw it....One of the Best I've ever seen.
Kinda makes you want to go home and read about it in the 'Good Book'.

Really makes you appreciate what Jesus did for us...now daily things like waiting in line, traffic, or whatever seem to not matter as much...

I don't like gratuitous violence so won't go to see it - I think Gibson is just being self-indulgent with this one. Can't believe it hasn't been R-rated for violence.

It does have an "R" rating for violence.

quite frankly, I am a bit scared to see it. My husband and I were discussing it last night and agreed it may be one to wait for on video...that way we can pause it and take a break from the drama if needed...my 11 year old however is begging to see it! :-?

Hi Kitty! I'm a little scared to see it myself! I mean we all know what happens...but I don't think we've ever seen it portrayed with such harsh reality!! (at least I haven't) I will probably see it, but I need to prep myself! I don't have children, but a local radio station had people calling in yesterday saying that it is definitely NOT a movie for children under the age of 14 or 15....they gave many examples of people with kids younger than that who had to get up and leave! Obviously you know your keet better than anyone, I just wanted to let you know what others are saying.

Okay.. I want to see this movie, but I absolutely HATE subtitles! Supposedly, part way through the movie you forget about them and it doesn't make a difference...
I'd like to hear from someone else who hates subtitles as much as I do. Did you forget about it after a bit and enjoy the movie or was it annoying the whole way through?

We have quite the variety of opinions in our house. I'm going to go see it. Mr. SGH doesn't want to. My 16 y/o wants to. My 13 y/o, who always wants the goriest, most violent video games (but doesn't get them  ) doesn't want to see it. He's the most soft-hearted of the four males I live with, and I think he realizes he wouldn't be seeing cartoon-type violence, but the illusion of real human suffering. Even if he wanted to, I'm not sure I'd let him see it in a theater. Maybe on video. The youngest, 10, isn't interested, but no matter, because I think he's too young.

I saw the movie on opening day and I walked out speechless. It actually took me several minutes to compose myself enough to drive. The movie effected me in a way that no other film has ever done. It was that powerful. It was also that brutal. The film IS the most violent film that I have ever seen. It is unrelentless. Not because of the violence alone, but because of the realism. The best advice I can give to anyone thinking of letting their children see this is to watch it first on their own and then make their decision. Any child under 13 should not see this at all. I am not letting my children see this, and I basically let them watch anything. I just think it's too brutal and too real for a young child to deal with, especially one that gets overly-emotional. I apologize if I sound preachy. I loved the movie. Just wanted to give you the heads up. Hope this helps make your decision a little easier.

As for the subtitles. I normally don't care for them. But believe me, you'll be so focused on what's happening on the screen that they won't matter.

But the Bible is violent..... and for the parents deciding if their kids should watch it: I agree that you should watch it before you let any keet under 15 watch it. I never have a problem with violence and gore, I'm 20 and at many times in the movie I had to look away.

And in regards to the subtitles, it's not bad at all. The producers wanted it to be as real as possible so the movie is spoken in Aramaic (sp?) and Latin but the subtitles aren't long at all. I was a little apprehensive about that too before I saw Passion cause I'm also not a fan of subtitles. But honestly, they aren't bad. It's a good movie for people who understand the story and feel like they can handle actually seeing it. And yes, it does make you think about a lot of things when you walk out of the theater.

Actually, interestingly enough, the movie was never going to have subtitles. Gibson initially wanted to keep it as authentic as possible. But then I guess because of the increasing public interest in seeing the movie, he changed his mind and added them.

"Passion" Inspires Fashion Craze

Post by Jahfin »

From the Raleigh News and Observer:
http://newsobserver.com/features/v-...p-3007349c.html

By KAREN GUZMAN, Staff Writer

While film critics and theologians debate the virtues of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," the devout are snapping up jewelry inspired by the movie.

Bob Siemon Designs, a California company, is marketing "Passion" jewelry including a crucifixion-style nail pendant necklace and cross pendants and bracelets. And although some critics have called the jewelry crass commercialism, sales are booming.

Siemon Designs had shipped 100,000 pieces as of Feb. 23 -- only five days after the jewelry was released -- and was producing 10,000 new pieces a day.

"The focus was to create the product so that it allowed people to share their faith with others," says Dwight Robinson, the company's marketing chief.

The company restricted distribution of the jewelry, available only through the www.sharethepassionofthechrist.com Web site and at Christian bookstores. "We wanted to make sure it didn't become just a piece of movie merchandise," Robinson says.

Bob Siemon Designs, which launched the popular WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) bracelets a few years back, has kept the Passion jewelry affordable, Robinson says, with most pieces ranging from $9.99 to $16.99.

The nail pendant necklace, with Isaiah 53:5 etched on it, is a top seller. "That's been a popular item with the younger crowd, mainly young men and women in the 16 to 20 age group," Robinson says.

The company is also selling other merchandise linked to the movie, including Christian witness tracts and key rings.

Some items have begun trickling into the Triangle. The cross necklaces are popular at Lifeway Christian Store in Raleigh, says Shirley Evans, assistant store manager.

The movie has created a buzz among store patrons. "They are excited about it, and everything I have heard in the store has been very positive," Evans says.

The same thing is going at Family Christian Store in Raleigh, which is carrying a range of Passion merchandise from T-shirts to coffee-table books.

As for the crucifixion nail necklaces, Sarah Ensell, a saleswoman at Sign of the Fish in Raleigh, says they are nothing new.

"That was a very popular item even before the movie came out," she says.

The heart of fashion

Heart disease is the nation's No. 1 killer of women, yet not enough women seem to take this scary truth to heart.

To trumpet the awareness horn, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute this year is sponsoring a traveling caravan of ruby designer dresses to make women see red and think heart.

This week, half of the Red Dress Collection -- 18 frocks by the likes of designers Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera -- touches down in North Carolina for the first time. Nine of the designer dresses will be on display as part of a local awareness campaign, co-sponsored by the WakeMed Heart Center.

"It seemed to be a nice fit," said hospital spokeswoman Caroline Youngblood, of the collection. WakeMed is expanding its heart center.

The public can get a first glimpse of the gowns March 4, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at a preview at the WakeMed heart center at 3000 New Bern Avenue. To reserve tickets ($35 per person; $60 per couple,) call 350-5670. Proceeds will benefit the center expansion project.

On Friday and Saturday, the dresses move to the Crabtree Valley Mall where they will be on display during regular mall hours.

A brunch, fashion show and heart health screenings will be held at the mall from 8 to 11 a.m. on Friday. Tickets, at $10, are available by calling 350-5670.

On Saturday, a heart health fair, including exhibits and screenings will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's free.

MTV's Production of "Passion of the Christ"

Post by Jahfin »

I saw this on one of my music lists this morning:

Mary - Sharon Osbourne
Joseph - Ozzy Osbourne
Mary Magdalene - Christina Aguilera
Three Wise Men - ZZ Top
Salome - Jennifer Lopez
John The Baptist - Lance Bass
Satan - Don Henley
Peter - Puff Daddy
Thomas - Snoop Dogg
Lazarus - 50 Cent
Lawrence Welk - Rod Stewart
Herod - Bono
Caiaphas - Tori Amos
Barabbas - R Kelly
Pontius Pilate - Carson Daly
Judas - Eminem
Jesus Christ - Britney Spears *

Directors - The Coen Brothers
Producers - The Hilton Sisters
Screenplay - C. Irving & H. Ghost

I do not know how Lawrence Welk got in there, except a lot of folks believe he lived at the time of Christ and that he returns to earth
when we need him. And, Lord, we need him now.
