Just a couple thoughts today's ticket adventures.
I went to a Publix that is in a part town that I didn't think many Parrothead would live in. For last April's show I went to the same one & there were maybe a dozen people there. This morning I went feeling confident only to find a line. Over 30 people were in the lottery & by pure dumb luck I was number three. The first person got Section 202 in Row OOO. Second person was able to get uncovered seats but decided to go for lawn instead. Lawn only for me and by the eighth or ninth person they only had scattered single reserved left.
I'm more than happy with lawn tickets for JB, especially since upclose was $80+ each pre-Ticketbastard. Lawn is more fun anyway, even if you do have to step over a few passed out people. That said I was able to sit in 201 in '02 and had a blast.
I've been to several Buffett shows that sold-out and have always been able to get tickets day of; just be careful who you're buying from since there will be plenty of fakes. Look for someone who genuinely has an extra because someone cancelled. I've been on both sides of that. It's easier to get tickets if you look for only one at a time & don't mind lawn. And if you don't mind missing the opening 2-3 songs you can get some really good bargins once the show starts. I've heard of people slipping the ticket-taker a $20 after the music starts but that's not as easy as it used to be, too many eyes watching now. And check with the Ticketmaster site every so often, especially within a week or so of the show. It's not unusual for a very limited number to be released right before the date.
As the show gets closer those of us on the board who will be in attendance should come up with a way a meeting one another, a pre-party of our own. I'm interested in who's who.
As for getting really good seat through Ticketbastard it's happened to me once. A few years ago for Dave Matthews I was able to get Section 103 Row C

I've gotta agree with ya dude. I wish I could make plans and book a hotel and go to a show without tickets but I just don't have the cahoneys for it.buffettphreak wrote:12V I appreciate your moral standards. I'm just not that strong. I want tickets and I want to know I have a seat.
If I take a stand and don't buy from the scalpers then someone else is going to anyway. I know the nice thing to say is well if everyone stopped doing it they'd be out of business. Problem with that is, everyone isn't going to stop doing it, I'll just keep missing shows. Unfortunately it is the price we pay for living in a free, capitalist society. I wish that if I boycotted the scalpers that others would follow, but it just ain't gonna happen so why should I miss out?
Just my 2 cents....

I understand. I just hate the way it works and forces people to have to go through those ticket theives.buffettphreak wrote:12V I appreciate your moral standards. I'm just not that strong. I want tickets and I want to know I have a seat. Especially this year. My Brother who got me hooked on Buffett when I was 13 is coming up for this one and bringing his wife & daughter & her friend and we are taking our daughter & son - so we need 8 seats together. I can't wait till the last minute and hope someone has a ticket. Besides I am too much of a planner for that.12vmanRick wrote:I want to re-emphasize something. If you buy from these people, whether on Ebay or whatever, you are just encouraging them to continue to steal tickets and screw people over on a fair price. I would just about gurantee you that you can buy a ticket from a Parrothead that has extras from friends that back out beforehand or the day of the show at the parking lot. We have never failed to buy an add on person a ticket that way. Also, realize some people's credit cards will be declined so check back with Ticketbastard (not that these people are much better than scalpers) every day AND be sure to check the day before and the day of the show often.
What gets to me is that we can't get more than 8 tickets together, and we have to wait until they actually go on sale. Those same rules need to apply to brokers too. Then we could all stand a chance to get tickets. I do not blame the brokers - they are just making a living - I blame Ticketmaster for not enforcing the rules for everyone!!!!!!
When they run you out of town make it look like you are leading the parade.

A couple of years ago, after getting shut out by TM, I called a broker. Here was our conversation:
Broker: Thank you for calling (insert company name). May I help you?
Me: Do you have any Jimmy Buffett tickets?
Broker: Not at the moment, but I will soon. Have you tried Ticketmaster?
I don't remember what I said, but here's what I wanted to say: "No, buddy, I started to try them, but my wallet was too fat, and I desparately needed to get rid of some of that money that was clogging up my billfold, making it hard to get it in my pants pocket. So, I decided to try to buy from you first and pay double face value when I could have gotten them from Ticketmaster for face!!"

don't mean to 'call ya out' but this is a very interesting definition of the word 'trade'...Steele1161 wrote:I picked up 12 lawns tonight on the internet. I am hoping to use these as a trade for Canden or Nissan. See my add in ticket exchange

There are people that wanted tickets very badly and did not get them and now are looking at having to pay more and your "trade" wants quite a hefty upcharge. Personally, I am not sure how you would think that buying 12 in Atlanta would get you trade for the two shows you ask about.jiggs(2) wrote:don't mean to 'call ya out' but this is a very interesting definition of the word 'trade'...Steele1161 wrote:I picked up 12 lawns tonight on the internet. You are right. I am hedging my bets here.
We all know it is hard to get tickets, escpecially in Camden and Great Woods. I am just trying not get shut out, escpecialy with no Great Woods show this year.
1) If someone get me Camden and VA as I stated in the ticket exchange, they can have them for cost (and I mean cost). I can take them off E-bay before Sunday at 3:20 (even if I have a bid). The show is more important than the $$$.
2) If no one comes through, I am going down down the E-bay path. Remember if I get shut out in Camden, it is going to cost me to buy Camden Tickets. I paid $350 for 2 tickets 2 year ago and last year I traded tickets with someone for the Camden show. So it does work.
3) If my E-bay offer expires and I get no bids, than I have offered the person that wants 10 of them on the ticket exchange at $50 each (tickets cost me $45 each with all the SC). We E-mailed each other last night.
