RIP Great Woods / Mansfield ??

While I do not have any specific knowledge about what will or will not happen with respect to JB's Massachusetts dates, my wife and I just want to express of feelings on this potential move.
We live on Long Island, and we have travelled up to Great Woods every Labor Day for as long as we can remember. If Jimmy decides to give Great Woods a pass in favor of Fenway Park, we most certainly will not be making the soujourn this year.
While you can see Jimmy at many different venues (if you are willing to travel), the parking lot at Great Woods is unique, and is THE reason we made the effort every year. There is something about the venue that makes the event truly special, and worth the trip.
Again, we have no idea what is going to happen, but we will both mourn the loss of this event if Jimmy pulls the plug on it.

I wholeheartedly agree. There is no other total experience like Great Woods. I've been to Atlanta, Long Island, North Carolina(2), Florida( 4 venues), Seattle and Portland, OR and there is no comparison to GW. We all can fool ourselves and say Fenway will be great, BUT there will basically be NO parking lot. Hopefully, this will be a one time thing for Jimmy and he will be back where he belongs - at Great Woods for the Labor Day Weekend Show!

I think it stinks to ditch Great Woods in favor of Fenway. I can understand that Jimmy, being the huge baseball fan he is, wants to play at Fenway ... BUT to
replace Great Woods ...

... that's just nuts!
I may or may not go to the show (
as that weekend each year I usually go down-island on Saturday/Sunday for a family reunion, and don't look foward to the drive after a late night Friday) but if I
do, it certainly
won't involve tailgating, I'll just be going to see the show, while
trying to avoid getting a stiff neck!

Labor Day at Great Woods is a tradition that should not end. I think there are more than enough Parrotheads to do 10 shows in Boston and I hope Jimmy and his people know that too. He would easily sell out all 4 shows if he decided to keep the 2 at Great Woods over Labor Day and the two proposed shows at Fenway. What a money maker and it keeps everyone happy. C'mon Jimmy 4 Boston shows in 2004!
And P.S. Why no Star Lake? Another staple on the summer tour is not listed yet??? Pittsburgh needs its annual Jimmy fix!

No it wouldn't keep everyone happy. What about the cities that don't get any shows or the cities that he only plays every other year now instead of every year? Four shows in Boston means 2 fewer shows somewhere else. He hasn't played NY in 2 years. I'd like to be able to go to at least one show without having to travel.

Sometimes the selfishness is uinbelievable. I used to go to shows every year sometimes multiple times, last year I skipped giving someone else the oppotunity to go. I have always bought the maximum amount of tickets to sell to other parrotheads at no profit. To ask for 4 shows in the same area I think is nearly insane.
It is not about the money why he wouldn't play 4 times any way. I believe that he probably has a commitment to other things also. Why wouldn't he want to limit himself a little and keep the "desire" to go to shows up. Again it always comes back to business. He is one great business man when you think about it.
I live near Indy so the thought of no shows is virtually gone from me because of the CiP. Good thing I don't have to worry about it.

That's why I don't like this Fenway shows thing at ALL!
IF he
adds them, it really isn't fair to the places he skips, but if they're a
replacement I think it's a
shame because venue-wise it just
doesn't come close.

I can't believe the reaction to something that I personally think is pretty darn cool. How does everyone know that Fenway won't be the best two shows of the tour? Okay, so Great Woods seems to be off the list for this year, and that's a shame on some level. But it seems to me that Jimmy has been wanting to play a legendary ball park like Fenway for a long time, and now he might have the opportunity. I'd even go so far as to bet that since this is such a special circumstance, he might even put on a longer show, and break out some relics from the past. It's gonna be fun, and I wish I could be there. Besides, if Fenway does turn out to be a bum venue, he'll probably be right back at Great Woods in 2005. Relax Boston, you get just about every tour worth seeing, including an annual Feeding Frenzy. Charleston gets next to nothing anymore, and Nashville is seeing less and less of the tours worth going to. Looks like I'll be taking a trip to Charlotte this year.

I couldn't agree more! This is going to be something special. I love GW and have seen countless shows there, lets face it nothing really ever changes though. To see Jimmy in a ballpark that is 96 years old will be a once and a lifetime opportunity. Anybody that went to the MSG show in 2001 will tell you that was without a doubt the most memorable show he did that year and guess what... there was no tailgaiting. Oh the horror. I can't wait for Fenway!!!

I agree, I think Fenway would be great! Personally I think Wrigley Field would be even better, I wouldnt miss that for anything!

By the way, season ticket holders get first dibs on tickets and that a ton, tickets to Bruce were very hard to come by, thats why he also played Foxboro stadium. Getting tickets will be a pain at best

photogal is right here for the most part, Red Sox season ticket holders will get first dibs on tickets for either show and they probably will be allowed to buy up to 4 tickets each. After the Scalpers and brokers get their bunch there wont be many left for the general public.
As far as the Springsteen shows went, the Foxboro shows were actually scheduled and tickets went on sale a month or so before word of the Fenway shows came out and the were close to being sold out by the time the Fenway shows were announced. Still that didn't stop the Fenway tickets from selling out in 15 minutes or so.
If you thought Great Woods Tickets were hard to get wait till you try and get Fenway Park tickets, If you know a Red Sox season ticket holder you might want to start sucking up to them now.

I've seen lots of shows at Great Woods and never thought anything could hold a candle to it. Then I went to Alpine last year and it was real darn close. Try it out if you're ever out in the midwest.

I understand you pain, as my beloved Irvine Show was postponed and moved to Anaheim. For months, I was disappointed, positive that the parking lot would not live up to the Irvine standard.
Upon my arrival at the Anaheim Pond, I was shocked to see the parking lot going off (just like Irvine). I am not familiar w/ fenway, or its surroundings, but would recommend you guys give it a shot before you bash it. Come on......it's Buffett!
