How Many Shows Have You Seen?

How many Jimmy Buffett shows have you seen? What was your favorite?

Forgive me if this topic has been done before...I did a quick search and didn't see one, though its hard to believe no one has ever asked before.

I've seen 14. I'm presuming May 22 in Columbus will be the BIG 15 and Riverbend in August will be 16.

The Indy show last year was pretty special to me. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and as an added bonus we got to "be in the video" for It's Five O'Clock Somewhere (okay, we really can't see us in the video, but we know we were there).

And I have no problem conjuring up images of Carter Finley Stadium in Raleigh on July 4 '98. That was probably the wettest I've ever been. The Weather Channel girl said something about tropical upwinds. All I know is that it rained sideways and it was still a blast!

Meeting the band in Columbus in '01 was cool, too. Shook hands and got autographs from everyone but Jimmy. Damn. One of these days I will meet him, too. I hope.

Here's my list and a scan of some of my ticket stubs...

So...how many shows? And what was your fave?

14 shows since 2/22/99. My personal favorite was Cincinnati on 8/19/00. The weather was absolutely perfect (there was a nice breeze blowing), Jimmy had an awesome set list, I had great seats, and Jimmy did 4 encores!

I remember all 14 shows very well and have had a blast at every one of them. But, that show stands out above all the rest. A few others that stand out: I saw the very first show of the Far Side tour in April 2002 in Nashville; it was really interesting not having a clue what song was coming next. I saw him end with Viva Las Vegas in Vegas in April 2000. When he hit the first note of that song, we all were looking at each other like, "What is this?" We figured it out as soon as he got to the words; that was a great and surprising way to end the show. He ended with Stars Fell on Alabama in Birmingham in November 2001, and the lights were done in such a way that it looked as if the whole arena was covered in stars. I also saw him dedicate the Atlanta show in February 2003 to the astronauts who were killed in the shuttle explosion on the morning of the concert. That was very moving.

Here's my list:

2/20/99 Nashville (Gaylord Entertainment Center)
7/10/99 Atlanta (Hi fi buys Ampitheater)
8/21/99 Cincinnati (Riverbend)
4/15/00 Las Vegas (MGM Grand)
7/15/00 Atlanta (Hi fi buys Ampitheater)
8/19/00 Cincinnati (Riverbend)
2/10/01 Ft Lauderdale (National Car Rental Center)
6/5/01 Cincinnati (Riverbend)
11/7/01 Birmingham (Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center)
4/13/02 Nashville (Amsouth Ampitheater)
6/29/02 Atlanta (Hi fi buys Ampitheater)
2/1/03 Atlanta (Philips Arena)
4/19/03 Nashville (Amsouth Ampitheater)
6/28/03 East Troy, Wisconsin (Alpine Valley Music Center)

Wow! Typing that brought back a ton of great memories! I can't wait for the next show!

Charlotte Coliseum on 4/24 will be my 40th show. Because of that, I cannot remember the dates, but can list the venues. Most of the Florida venues and Charlotte VWA are multiple times.

Wickham Field, Key West
Street party MOTM ’98 Key West
Miami Arena
Miami Jai Alai Fronton
Miami Baseball Stadium
Sunrise Musical Theater, Sunrise, FL
West Palm Beach Auditorium
Coral Sky Amph, WPB, FL
Florida Gym, Gainesville
Florida Field, Gainesville
Carolina Center, Columbia, SC
Lakewood Amph, Atlanta, GA (can’t get used to calling it Hi-Fi Buys)
Charlotte Coliseum, NC
Verizon Wireless Amph, Charlotte, NC
Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
Amsouth Amph, Nashville, TN
Merriweather Post Amph, Bethesda, MD
Mansfield, MA

Most memorable? “Primera vista” (my first look) July 2, 1977, opened for the Eagles Hotel California tour in Miami Baseball Stadium. The first concert I ever went to and “that’s when I swallowed the hook”.
I was swimming with you, Cartmill, in Raliegh on 7/4/98. Get this: my electric window on my car would not go up right before we went into the show and I figured, what the heck, it’s almost 100 degrees out here, I’ll leave all my windows down! It was Lake Mazda when I got back to my car. The only dry piece of clothing we had was the t-shirt we bought inside and had placed in our backpack. That was one heck of a waterproof backpack!

37, the top 3, in no particular order:
Jones Beach, July, 1988 (the first one)
Las Vegas, April 15, 2000 (JB was nice enough to do a show for me on my birthday)
Nashville, April 13, 2002 (2 days before my 50th birthday)

Charlote and Atlanta will be my 50th and 51st, dating back to 1976, and it's been a great ride all the way.

WOW.. hey you planning on finding any of us at the Atlanta show this year?

I don't know how many I have been to but they have all been in Atlanta until this year at Ft. Liquordale.

I think it's 29 shows seen dating back to 1988. Columbia and Atlanta will make it 31.

LIPH, I believe that Jones Beach concert was my first as well :)

It's hard to remember them all, but my venue list is short and easy...
Jones Beach (3x)
Mann Music Center in Philly (3x or 4x)
Thompson Bowling Arena in Knoxville (1x)
Lakewood/Hi-Fi Buys in Atlanta (all the rest)

Jones Beach is my favorite venue by far!

Poplar Creek (79-85), I really don't remember how many. I would see one show in pavillion and the rest of the shows in lawn with buddies. I seem to remember three shows in a row each year, but sumbuddy on here said I was nuts

Williamsburg, VA w/ Little Feat 1989.

Charlotte(2) 1990/91

Milwaukee-Summerfest 1992

Alpine 1993-?????? except for two weddings

Assuming he comes to Pittsburgh this year, it'll be 11 for me. I started going to the 'Burgh shows back in '94, and haven't missed a year yet. Went twice a few years ago when he still did back-to-back Friday/Saturday shows in Pittsburgh).

Someday I gotta see him in another city. I hear such great things about all these other venues...

I've only been able to see one show, in Alpine last summer. And, God willing, I'll get to see at least one show each year.

I'm not sure how many. All the shows he did at Riverport in St. Louis (7?) including front row seats once, two at the Tweeter Center in Chicago and Las Vegas (MGM Grand) last April. If he adds a second show (on Saturday) in Chicago, we'll go to that.

I wish he'd come back to St. Louis.

BTW, I think my favorite was the first one, I think it was 1992.

Are you a former NY'er or did you travel up here to see that one?

My venue list is a little longer -
Jones Beach (10 or 11, I think)
Madison Square Garden (4)
MGM Grand (4)
West Palm Beach
Manassas (3)
Pittsburgh (2)
Ft. Lauderdale
Nashville
Atlanta
Great Woods
Orlando
Indy
Chicago
Flamingo Las Vegas

There might be others that I'm forgetting, I'm old.

Does the Today Show Friday morning concert series count? I've seen him there 3 times.

I have seen 40. My 40th being the Labor Day weekend show at Great Woods. I am off to Charlotte to see him on 4/24. So for those keeping score it will be 41. I started to see Jimmy shows in the early mid-80's. Luckily I had a Dean at my school who felt I would receive a better education at Domino College!

Anyone going to Charlotte PM me...I am bringing down a few others and we would love to enjoy the atmosphere...

I'm a former Northeastern PA resident, so I drove to both Jones Beach and Philadelphia to see him back then. I relocated to Atlanta in 92.

16 for me. My favorite was Nashville, because he had not been there in a long time, so the crowd was stoked, plus I had 8 people with me, 6 for the first time, it was memorable. Also saw him in Margaritaville in New Olreans before Jazz Fest, small group only 250, and I was 4 feet from the stage, not likely to top that one.

My first show was at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill in the Spring of 1979 during Apple Chill Weekend, he was on a bill with local band Nantucket and The Spinners. It was after the release of You Had To Be There but prior to Volcano being released so he was debuting some Volcano songs on that tour including the title track and "Fins". I attended practically ever show he did in NC after that up until the Domino College Tour circa 1995. During that time I saw him graduate from playing colleges to large outdoor (and indoor arenas) but now it seems when he plays here it is during the week so I'm unable to get away to his shows. Hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since I've seen Buffett live but his upcoming show that's closest to me is on a Tuesday so it looks like I'll be missing him again on this tour.

My favorite show was probably the Coconut Telegraph Tour when he played Minges Colosieum on the campus of ECU in Greenville, NC. It's particularly notable because I saw something happen at this show that you would probably NEVER see happen now, the audience was adomished by Buffett and stage crew for throwing an inflatable shark up onstage.
