Fenway vs Great Woods for 2004 depends on March 22 approval
Even as a true Bostonian, a huge Red Sox fan, avid admirer of Fenway, I am also in the corner that Great Woods should not be passed over in favor of Fenway. I saw Jimmy at the Fleet Center a few years back and granted it was the winter, it stunk in the city. There is no parking around Fenway except 1 or 2 lots (and they'll be charging $20-$30 too). My take on it is that the PGA Golf event is taking place again in Norton,MA next to Great Woods and this would be the perfect year for Jimmy to skip Great Woods. I suspect they are waiting until March 22 approval meeting from the city to announce the Fenway gig. If it gets denied, then you'll see Jimmy at Great Woods. There's no way he'd do 4 shows in Boston (although I'd love to see it). There's also no way the Fenway gig will get denied, so see you at Fenway!

you may get into the city for the sunday show (not without problems anyway) buy if you think your going to be able to get around in boston on a friday (workday) where there is already a shortage of parking spaces, well good luck! keep in mind this stupid cities downtown roads were all started by cow's in the 1700's and it hasn't gotten any better!!!!!

I still think the rent a whole parking lot idea is a good one. Also we thought we could meet someplace just outside the city, put everything in one van and everyone else take the T so we just have to park one car. were going to a red sox game in april and are goin to scoop it out. Still would much rather be at greatwoods......

Well, guess my wife & I will be spending our first Labor Day weekend in years elsewhere.rpnuge wrote:Even as a true Bostonian, a huge Red Sox fan, avid admirer of Fenway, I am also in the corner that Great Woods should not be passed over in favor of Fenway. There is no way we will make the trip from Long Island to MA to see JB in a stadium venue. We've seen our share of GW, Southampton (All For The Sea benefit) and Jones Beach shows to tide us over until Jimmy comes to his senses.
Maybe it is time to rest our fins.

Parking and traffic in Boston STINKS but driving may be the only option, because if people expect to use public transportation to get home to the 'burbs, FUGGEDDABOUDIT! You would need to leave in the middle of the second set to get the last train out...

first of all the only twisted site lines are those seats in the rightfield grandstands and boxes. Because they face centerfield they s*** for a baseball game but will pretty good seats for a concert with a stage in centerfield. The last train on the T leaves at 12:45 am. I'm pretty sure the concert will be over by then. If you live way in the burbs you will have to drive to at least a T station. Traffic does s***, best option is to park at the Prudential Center and walk over. They charge $10.00 if you have a Sox tix so they may do the same for the concert.Caribbean Soul wrote:With crappy seats and twisted sight-lines at that!bgsherris wrote:No, I have not...but I know enough MA residents who have been, and I have seen my share of photos of the park to know it is a stadium...albeit one of the smaller stadiums.RAGTOP wrote:stadium venueHave you ever been to Fenway????

It seems like those seats face the darn bullpen not centerfield,
but still you're right, they'd be much better for a concert than for the ballgame! As to the T schedule... finding parking at outlying T stations will be no picnic either especially for the Friday night show. For Sox games my son has had luck at Quincy, but that's about the only one.
Look... in comparisson to Great Woods...
the venue is worse
the tailgating, if it even exists, will be much worse
it's a logistical nightmare to get to and from
it's on a very bad weekend for me personally
BUT...
it's Jimmy
so I will try to get tickets anyway!

Seems to me that you have made an EXCELLENT case for giving Fenway a GREAT BIG PASS!Caribbean Soul wrote:Look... in comparisson to Great Woods...

Under these circumstances, why would anyone who is not local to the venue even consider making the effort to come to MA?
The answer is...many will not!
I sure hope JB does a Jones Beach date. If not, it appears that 2004 will be the first Buffett-less year in more than half a decade for us!

I agree with what a lot of you are saying. But for me, the weekend the shows are going to be on is the major problem. At least he should play a Saturday night gig so those of us traveling can go>Both shows are out of reach for me at this point considering ill probably have a new job.I might actually have to miss this and im really p***.He bettter play a Long Island show this year!!!Snowballs chance in hell that Fenway doesn't get approved and we conitnue the tradition that is Labor Day weekend at Great Woods!

It seems Jimmy could announce he's going to play on the shipping docks of Newark and many would say "Yay, a Buffett concert! I'm there! It'll be different! We should be so glad Jimmy's playing The Docks, 'cuz it'll be my only chance to see him....so, pass the mace, handguns and tazer, Newark Docks concert, here we come!!!!"
Venues are different.
Some are just bad places for a show.
A show at a bad place that takes the place of a show at a VERY good place is NOT a good thing.
Tailgating is a VERY important element of a Buffett concert - otherwise we could just play our CD's at home or put in Live By The Bay.
All concerts by JB are NOT created equal, and some folks would rather not go to a "bad" venue.
That doesn't make us disloyal fans, whatever the h*ll that is!!
Other than that, have a nice day...
