This is too good to pass up.
And maybe I'm looking at things from the wrong perspective. I always thought the object of hockey was to put the puck in the net and defeat your opponent, not to beat him senseless.
That's not accurate. Players get knocked down from clean checks all the time without a penalty being called.tommcat327 wrote:ANY physical contact resulting in a fall is a 2 minute penalty.

hockey is the god of all sports. lets let them do everything that other sports are not allowed to do, and if someone dies, oh well. they are exempt from the law. the law sucks, the goverment sucks, all politicians are liars and thieves, and law enforcement is the anti-christ. /more sarcasm off
wait hold on, the caps are off
DONT BECOME A LAWYER
there im finished. have a nice day.
Fighting IS illegal in hockey, that's why you get a five minute penalty when you get into a fight, plus 2 minutes for instigating if you start one.tommcat327 wrote:AND MY ARGUMENT WITH 1/2 POUND WAS FROM THE FACT THAT HE SEEMED TO BE UNDER THE FALSE IMPRESSION THAT FIGHTING IN HOCKEY WAS SOMEHOW ILLEGAL

i meant illegal in terms of the law.he was under the impression it seemed that a fight in hockey was actually against the law.
and the initial object is to score goals, beating someone senseless is just an added bonus

Since I am a huge hockey fan, a HUGE Avs fan and was watching that game from the first minute, here's my take on the game and the assault:
1) The refs let the game get out of hand from the time the Avs went up 5-0 in the first period. There were numerous fights (even one involving Steve Moore, the guy who was assaulted later), a lot of real close to the line checks and hits. Not to mention on of the Caf**ks getting in the Denver goalies face after two goals. The refs and the league should have been aware of the probability of something happening in this game and been prepared to take control early. They didn't and it got away from them.
2) I have twice said the hit on Moore was an assault. I picked that word very specifically. There is no place in the game of hockey for following the players from one end of the ice to the other, trying to egg him into a fight and then, when he wont, grabbing him from behind by the jersey and sucker punching him like that. It was an assault. This was not hockey, has no place in hockey and anyone who truely loves this game should be the first in line to say that. Whether the police should be involved is a matter of question. I think if a move is premeditated and outside of the norm, there should be repercussions. And I dont have any faith that the powers that be in hockey will come down hard enough. IMHO, he should be banned for life.
3) As to whether he intentionally drove him into the ice, I saw at least three different angles of the hit and in my opinion, he intended on doing exactly that. After the punch, he continues to pull Moore into him, place his fore arm against the upper part of Moore back and falls forward with him. He could have released him. There is no doubt in my mind of that. He fully intended to take him to the ice.
I know some people wont agree with me. So what. I know what I saw, and made an opinion of it after watching the replays about 50+ times while Steve Moore lay bleeding on the ice.
And Im sorry, anyone who says this is part of the game is full of ****.
