As a former Hockey player with over 18 years at all levels I think the courts should stay out of it. Hockey can police itself. However, I feel the league should step in and give him at least a year or more suspension.
That is what will stop this from happening. Remember when Dave Forbes butt ended Henry Boucha in the eye? Nothing happened to Forbes but Boucha had his career ended early.
Hockey does not need this now. Especially with the impending lockout.

Yeah, if only because he's stupid enough as an all star to jeporadize his career instead of letting one of the goons take care of it.

:P

Yep.

Looks like he hit him from behind, looks like but cant be for sure if he drove his head into the ice...... but that's all I saw of the video.

Now squaring off to fight.... both guys dropping there gloves....... is different.... IMHO

I didn't see it first hand, but I saw the highlights at the end of the game( I love the Avs). This was certainly malicious and there is cause for possible legal involvement. There was an episode of CSI that dealt with the hockey issue. A guy fell and got a skate the the jugular in a pile up. CSI came in and got the guy convicted for murder. I love hockey and I love to see scuffles. sure a fight is "acceptable" but when you get checked into the glass and you just get p*** off and wrestle with the guy it is different. This canuck player intentionally tried to cause bodily harm to this guy, it was completely unprovoked, probably pre-meditated. His career is definitely over, will the law get involved?, probably, will he be arrested and put in jail? probably not. I'll take him bring him onImage :P

It was a brutal game. The Avs were beating the crap outta the Cafu**s. It was all in retailitaion. Just wait til the next meeting of these two teams----more blood will be shed on the ice.

It's Hockey, not the Ballet. There is suppose to be some sort of violence to the game of hockey, main reason why I used to play it back in the day.

Them's fighting words!!!!  I saw the game last night - it was the first time I have actually watched most of an ice hockey match - really rugged - but hitting someone from behind like that is cowardly!!! Watch rugby - the guys front each other and trade hits (although sometimes someone gets stomped on in a ruck).
I'll be watching more games - but Ihope no one gets seriously hurt next time - a bit of biffo never hurt anyone - but that was OTT!

Let me start by saying that I'm not a hockey fan and my first reaction to the highlight was that the guy should be thrown in jail. But after reading the opinions here and thinking about it a little more I've changed my mind about jailtime. However, in my opinion the guy should be banned for life. It was a cowardly attack from behind and it resulted in a broken neck. He could have killed the guy! I believe a lifetime ban would let the other players in the NHL know that this will not be tolerated. Of course, that's just my opinion.

i'm glad i didnt see that show.that would have got me pretty mad.convicting a guy for murder who was involved in an accident during a dangerous game like hockey is just stupid.

the team admitting there was a bounty on the guy's head was probably the not brightest thing to do. that shows intent....
