OH THE FUN OF INDY THIS SUMMER...
How wonderful will it be to have our own Jimmy in Indy for TWO days this summer? There is going to be a group of us camping Tuesday through Thursday across the street from Verizon at Sleepybear. Granted, it does cost $20 to get in, but they have a ton of room, the police never come near so you can be as wild as you please, the people are amazing, and it even gives you a place to sleep for the night if you can't drive home. They also have camping where you can pay a nominal fee to set up your tents and campsite for the days. Tailgating in the parking lot sucks, I've seen way too many people get arrested because the cops are dicks. Also in the parking lot you can't have any glass, grills, or canopies. As far as our phlock is concerned, Sleepybear is the place to be and you are all welcome to join us for three days of festivities.

Say some guys can't talk their voisces of reason into camping and are forced to get rooms at the super 8 motel...how far from venue is motel...since lot tailgating is no good where would you suggest...can we tailgate in lot if we are just some middle aged parrotheads that want to just drink beer, eat food, and listen to music...can we park at sleepy bear (and pay the fee) even if not camping...or another nearby field, etc...
thanks
thanks
Growing older but not up !

5 Miles From Deer Creek Equals...
Let's see, the Super 8 is approximately five miles from Deer Creek, er, Verizon. That means driving it will take you approximately 17 hours and 36 minutes. You will be back to your room following the show in just over 18 hours.
You could also choose to park your car at the Super 8 and crawl there in the same amount of time.
I've been to amphitheatres all over the east and midwest and I don't think I've seen a parking/driving situation that equals the madness of Indy.
Great people. Good fun. Horrible commute into and out of the place.
Seriously, if you do go, get there REALLY early and plan to party in the parking lot for about 3 hours (no joke) after the show.

Great news...
Hoosier PH that is great news. I don't know what kind of traffic engineer designed the access to Deer Creek, but he must have skipped "Large Venue/Country Roads" discussion day back in college.
How do you exit 20,000 people onto, what, four 2-lane country roads that are several miles from the interstate? VERY slowly, that's how.
Anyway, traffic aside, its a GREAT place to see a concert. And like I said, the people there are alway fun and nice.
I can't wait for wider as well as additional roads.

I wasn't 21 yet last yaar...hell we had 17 year olds drinking with us at sleepybear and didn't ahve a single problem. You can pay like $20 and park there even if you aren't camping and if you are in no shape to make it back to the super 8 they dont' care if you spend the night. It is the most expensive parking near the place but it's the best too. They also have a contract with Verizon in which they have two employess there at all times and the police cannot enter the premises so everything works out pretty nicely. hope to see you there

Whats wrong with the camping area owned by Deer Creek not the sleepy bear place? Sleepy bear was going to charge us $40 a head to camp there for the Dave Matthews Show last summer. It was something like $10 where we stayed. It was a slightly longer walk but well worth it. We partied for hours before and after the show and had zero issues with police or anyone else.
I really wish Riverbend had a setup like that.

Because Verizon Camping is only open for a few select shows a year, and has never been open for Jimmy.
