VEGAS/SAN REMO HOTEL INFO PLEASE!!!

Looks like we're heading for Vegas next fall. Seems like I've read that some BN'ers have stayed at the San Remo Hotel as a less expensive alternative to the major resorts. Would like some feedback on that!

Here's my situation, friends of ours are heading to Vegas to get married and staying for a week. We're heading out but most likely for only a long weekend. While they'll probably wanna go high rent resort style we just want to find a home base that's rather inexpensive but not too far from the action.

My wife and I are not gamblers, we just want to take in the sights and surroundings (and a few cocktails too I'm sure). Probably won't be renting a car but don't mind using our footpower at all.

Please light up the suggestion line!!!

I bet you could get a room at The Flamingo for about the same price as San Remo. I've stayed at both and I would prefer The Flamingo. Great location (right in the middle of the strip), GREAT pool area, and you have Margaritaville right downstairs. 8)

I agree with CRC, look at the deals on Hotels.com and a few other sites..... The San Remo is not a bad hotel but you may be able to do better for the $$$ if you look around a little!

I would stay at the SanRemo again if the situation was right!

If you belong to AAA call them, they can usually get you better rates. Place we stayed at for the show in September, we payed 99 a night on friday and saturday for a 2 room suite. and it was only a couple minute walk to the Grand.

Me too!! But I think the only reason we all stayed there last time was because Jeepgirl got a good kickback or something.

A GREAT place to stay in Vegas on a budget (if you don't want to stay at one of the major casinos) is the Hawthorne Suites. It is right behind the San Remo. I've stayed there a few times.

You can get one or two bedroom suites both of which have a living room with a fold out couch. It has a full kitchen (we like to stock the fridge with beer). It has a pool, jacuzzi, basketball court and volley ball court. There is a free breakfast buffett every morning (nothing fancy but it saves you $$) and mon-thur there are free cocktails in the evening.

It is a clean and quite hotel and it is off the Strip but right next to San Remo so you can walk over and use thier taxi stand and do a little gambling. Since all the rooms are suites they are big with a nice little balcony (unlike the hotel windows that don't open) When a group of us to to Vegas (6+) we usually stay in a two bedroom suite. The rates are really good too especially since you can split it among the 6 people that can easily stay in the room.

I go to Vegas at least once a year so I've stayed in a few different places, in fact I'll be there in two days with my wife (staying in a suite at The Venitian!!)

Excuse the pun, but lets call a spade a spade. As Vegas goes the San Remo is a dump! Go to The Flamingo for a few dollars more and enjoy a REAL Vegas hotel.

We booked a room for one night at the Tropicana a few years ago......now we're "VIPs". We get a calendar every 3 months listing daily the hotel's VIP rates..........we've stayed for as little as $15. Last Jan, we stayed for $35 and $55.

It's tacky, there's a mirror over every bed, but it's not a dump. Rooms are big and clean. Tropicana's best feature........ their hot tubs are OPEN 24 HOURS (many casino hotels close their pool areas at 7 or 8pm....Bummer).

Emeril's (yummy martinis and oysters on the half shell at the bar) is across the street at the MGM Grand and Margaritaville 3 blocks away.

Vegas is a goofy town, have fun!

I was in LV ago, The Sam Remo is OFF the strip a 5 to 10 min, walk to transportation up and down the strip.

The Excalibur is on the strip with easy and FREE transportation to Manalay Bay and shark reef via a monorail/tram.

The "old MGM to Ballys" monorail is closed and but sch. to open in April but its no loner FREE but it will go up the Sahara Ave.

Staying at Excalibur is cheap as long as you don't stay FRI or Saturday nights, only major draw back is that the decor is dark , the opposite of McDonald's & Circus/Circus. Book on line at the hotel sites and save a bunch.

I've stayed in the Excalibur before and walked through it last week and unless you are a heavy smoker that is not a good place to stay. The place reeks of cig. smoke. The casino is dark except for the hotel rooms which have the bright lights shining into the windows
