just look at george jones , his nickname is "no-show" jones , i saw hank jr. about 4 years ago and they had to bring out a chair half way through his set because he was chugging two dixie cups full of "something" at a time. It also started real late . It's that whole brand of country music that is hit or miss , but its also what makes it great at times.

Jahfin wrote:Well, he *was* once known as the "Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy". I attended one of his shows in the 70s which turned out to be an electric affair because he was out in support of an album that had quite a few rockin' tunes on it (Human Emotions). The show was great but when I saw him a few years later in the early 80s, he was horrible. He used to pass through here (eastern NC) on a fairly regular basis but as you might of gathered by now, his shows are very much a hit or miss proposition. One of the last times he was through here he was apparently too drunk to sing or play so they just had him propped up on the stage while someone from his band sang and played his parts. The show also started real late (after midnight) and ended REAL early (12:30 am) so I'm glad I didn't fork over the $15 to see him that night. In fact, I haven't seen him perform since those two shows in the late 70s and early 80s and am honestly in no rush to see him the next time he comes around given the erratic nature of his performances.
so do you know about the starf**ker club and how to get into it??

Point well made. I guess it just depends on how willing you are to take a chance on any given performer. To me, it was the Grateful Dead. Fortunately, the majority of the shows I saw by them were very good. Ryan Adams (including his days with Whiskeytown) is another artist who's performances are particularly erratic. Again, I was lucky, most of the shows I've seen by him/them were good. It's much better than going to a show where the set list is predetermined, or even worse, the same every night and every stage move is calculated right down to the millisecond in order to correspond with the light show. I prefer seeing local and up coming bands in the local bars where anything can (and usually does) happen. Beats the hell out of a choreographed arena show anyday.

Speaking of Hank Jr, I have a hilarious live bootleg of him butchering Family Tradition, cussing like a sailor, forgetting the words, mixing up the verses and what not.
I believe it's from the 90's because he slurs something Garth and oral sex.

I'd love to have a copy of it....I've always been a big fan of Hank Jr.
