RUSH is definetly one of the greatest bands ever and I always thought of them as a "thinking man's rock band" (or woman's :) ). My wife and I got to see them many years ago. Part of the set we saw included side 1 of 2112 (all I can say in INCREDIBLE). I remember playing bass guitar in a band back in college trying to teach myself Getty Lee's licks.

I'd love to see them again but not as a trade off for Jimmy. The music is still great but for this pirate looking at 38 :pirate: my heart has migrated to the islands. If you can some how swing both shows, more power to you! 8)

Just saw Neil and the boys last week in Columbus. Won VIP tix at work and was in the center of the center section about 15 rows back. What an amazing show. Being a wanna-be "professor of the drum kit", Neil has always been one of my idols and his style has influenced me greatly. Rush is another band that some people "Get" and others don't. I first saw them in 1975 right after Neil had joined the band on the Fly by night tour. Have seen them approx 15 times but had sorta lost track of them until last year when I caught the concert in Columbus. Been on a RUSH ever since.
I had great seats for Jimmy at the Schott last month too so I'm on a roll this year!
I think it's sad when people can only listen to one kind of music and think all other is terrible. I enjoy rockin with Rush, Redneckin with Hank Jr, Reggae(in) with Marley, ripping the blues with SRV and friends.
And last but not least.....relaxing and replenishing with JB & the Reefers....

I started playing drums in fifth grade. I played all the way through college and beyond. For those of that play (or played - real life has gotten in the way), there is no equal to Neil Peart. I would go to Rush concerts with binoculars and watch Neil play the entire concert. He has no equal.

You said it everyone! I saw them about 2 weeks ago in Va Beach and their 30th Ann. Tour is the best I've ever seen (been to many RUSH concerts since the early 80's. After the Va. Beach show, it inspired my wife and I to get tickets to Nissan in August.

If you have a chance to see this Tour....GO! :D

Amen Lono, I saw him playing a drum solo back in the 80s and all of the sudden, he and his drums started spinning upside down and in all directions like one of those spherical gyroscope rides they strap you into. The man never missed a beat and still managed to TAG the gong that was still mounted stationary behind him while he was upside down.

Being a bass player, I was always in awe of Getty. The man plays the best rock n roll bass on the planet, sings as only he can, and then plays keyboards with his feet - all at the same time. What more can you say?...

Agreed!
Anyone that plays in the rhythm section has to appreciate the talent of Geddy and Neil. I can't think of another 3 pc band that can play their most sophisticated tunes live and match the precision of their recordings...

What fun to read this thread! I haven't thought about Rush since high school except on two ocassions. Once when I called my brother to tell him I was in town and he was having supper with them! He ran the lights for the venue in which they were playing. The second time was when he gave me a t-shirt from the concert several months later.

I saw Rush recently at The Birchmere in Alexandria Virginia. Tom was in great voice and sure can tell some tales. Didn't do "Jamaica Say You Will" or Joshua Gone Barbados, but what the hell. A real performer with a great stage presence, sense of humor and timing.
