I think it sounds more like "Fingers is on deck"
It fits better with the basebell reference

I heard Jimmy do a radio interview before this song came out where he joked about one of his people (road manager?) having a New York accent and that when he said Coral Reefer band, it sounded like he was saying Carl Riener band.PalmettoSon wrote: Here's what I got:

Hey, Bobby where're the keys to the rent-a-car
Jimmy, Jimmy, can I open the show in Atlanta, please
Ignore me, don't ever start a band
Hope that helps
Going thru old posts, I came across this. Now, I sing a *LOT* of karaoke, and there isn't a Jimmy Buffett song out there that I can't do or won't try, at least once. "WDWGD&S" is one of my standards, but I always sang the words "snow queen" instead of "snuff queen".....a snow queen being a frigid b¡tch who one would probably have to get good and drunk before she'd agree to go to bed with you. While all the various meanings for "snuff queen" may be true most people have never heard of them and you can spend far too much time trying to explain.Beach Blonde wrote:snuff queen.....(WDWGD&S)
I understood he was saying "snuff queen" but through the years, I changed my mind what a SNUFF queen was....
Twenty years ago, I thought it was someone who chewed snuff, possibly of a cowgirl persuasion.
Then ten years ago, I heard it was an old pirate term meaning, prostitute.
Just tonight, moments ago, I read that a snuff queen is really this:
A snuff queen in Nashville in the early 70s was a term for a country and western groupie who hung around country artists looking to have sex with them.
I have just earned my Ph.D. from Margaritaville U as now my thesis is complete.
You forgot "Fingers, GO TO BED!!!" I can't remember where it comes in I think it's either between the first 2 or the second 2urlcenter wrote:"Play Ball!! (one, two, three, four)"

That's too funny! As a parakeet, I had been hearing that song since birth, but I was 15 before I realized it wasn't " brown, ugly haze".PalmettoSon wrote:I was about twelve and couldn't figure out what a "brown elly haze" was. I had no idea what that meant, but I sang it all the same.
You must not be old enough to remember this song, which was where I first heard about Madame Laveau.palmettopirate wrote:Took me a while to figure out Marie Laveaux in I will Play For Gumbo.
I don't think it's an indication that palmettopirate didn't know who Marie Laveau is, just that they had a hard time making out the lyrics. She also puts in an appearance in Buffett's cover of Mary Gauthier's "Wheel Inside the Wheel".Bicycle Bill wrote:You must not be old enough to remember this song, which was where I first heard about Madame Laveau.palmettopirate wrote:Took me a while to figure out Marie Laveaux in I will Play For Gumbo.
I always thought that Jimmy was speaking with a Jamaica accent thus turning "love me" to "love-a me". Also with "Not to worry mon soon come" changing from "mine soon come" to "mon soon come".PalmettoSon wrote:Am I the only one who takes issue with the lyrics to Volcano listed on margartaville.com?Shouldn't that be love-a me now or love-a me not?My girl quickly say to me,

"You better lava me now or lava me not.I always thought this one was monsoon, not mon soon, but then again neither one makes more sense than the other. No time to count what I'm worth,
cause I just left the planet Earth.
Where I go I hope there's rhum.
Not to worry mon soon come.

During Boat Drinks, when he sings, "I gotta fly to st. somewhere"
I thought he was saying, "I've got a plot of sand somewhere"
as if remembering a forgotten beach house or island hideaway.
I like mine better
