Anchor or appetite?

JUST THE OTHER DAY -- My 27 year old husband, in the shower, sang Southern Cross as plain as day, "And your love is an appetite to me, tied with a silver chain." I said, "WHAT? Say that again!" And he said the exact same thing over! I was cracking up! I wonder if he will read this ....

I thought it was Murphy, Walker, and Willi(s/e). Where did he skip Murphy and throw both Willis and Willie in there?

My very favorite version of the song!

Until I downloaded the guitar tabs for the song I also thought this too. Although I was always wondering why this man was mangled and why you would want to shake his hand while he was mangled, helping him might have been better if he's mangled. But then when I saw it was Mango Man, it made much more sense. That's my story for the day.

My mom, who's only exposure to Jimmy was occasionally riding in my car, went to her grave thinking he was saying "why don't we get drunk in school". Funny part was, she was a teacher

Someone here on the boards mentioned once that she and her 'keets sing it as "Why don't we drink milk and moo?"

I used to hear "brown ugly haze", which sorta made sense.
For the longest time, my meager collection mainly consisted of taped copies of BBBB, with no titles (or lyrics, of course). I could never understand what the hell "booze upon strangers" meant (Who's the Blonde Stranger?).
And of course, Frankie & Lola stopped at several Wal-Marts where they slurped a dozen each, didn't they ?

My niece thought Jimmy was singing... "My head hurts, my feet stink and I don't love cheese" instead of.. "My head hurts, my feet stink and I don't love Jesus"

When I first heard Margaritaville in 1977, I was 8 years old. I thought he was searching for a "lost shaker of soul." What the hell did I know about putting salt on a margarita glass? Soul made as much sense as salt.
I got my nephew into Buffett at an early age and he thought Jimmy was singing about "four lonely days in my brown baggy Hanes"! If you're wearin' a pair of Hanes for four days, they would be baggy and you would definitely be lonely!!
and of course brown....

I always thought that it was "Brown Alley Haze" in Come Monday as a kid. I also used to ask my parents why anyone would get drunk at school.

The one I didn't figure out until a few months ago was from Frank and Lola......the lyrics are "They stopped at several raw bars where they slurped a dozen each" I heard....."They stopped at several Walmarts where they slurped a dozen each" I always wondered what exactly they were slurping.

But really, in the early 70s, it probably was an LSD reference, just thinly veiled enough to get past the censors.
Same idea as "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta, Haynes and Jeremiah:
getting by on LSD

Then in 1985 I bought the S.Y.K.B.H. album, complete with liner notes and lyrics, and I saw the errors of my ways.
OK, add me to the list of people who once though that's what it was too.
Alright, me too.
Well, that happened to me too.... At least I'm not alone with that mistake...
The other one that I had was in "The Weather is Here...." I had a bad cassette version of that song and it was constantly in my rag top jeep and in the first chorus I thought he said "My girlfriend's a boy...." rather than "my girlfriend's bore..." Ahh... the error of my ways!
