When I first heard First Look I thought he was sayin "won't you take me to LIVE LONG where the samba queen waits for me" instead of "won't you take me to LEBLON where the samba queen waits for me".
Same here, when I saw misunderstood lyrics the first song that came to mind was Come Monday I remember hearing it on the radio when I was just a littlt Parrot.Gumbo wrote:When I was around 8-9 years old and heard "Come Monday" on the radio, I always thought he was saying "Commaday". I had no idea what that meant, but I sang it all the same.
I never thought of it that way!!!!!One Particular Cheesehead wrote:But really, in the early 70s, it probably was an LSD reference, just thinly veiled enough to get past the censors.longlinergirl wrote:This is the last one (tonight anyway) I promise!!! It took me several listen thrus of Ellis Dee to figure out it wasn't L.S.D.......come on its close....
Same idea as "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta, Haynes and Jeremiah:
getting by on LSD
Same here! Guess I better start reading the liner notes...tdparrothead wrote:When I first heard First Look I thought he was sayin "won't you take me to LIVE LONG where the samba queen waits for me" instead of "won't you take me to LEBLON where the samba queen waits for me".
i sing it that way (...packard runnin'...) sometimes. i pretty sure he says that in one of the live recordings. ( you know how he changes lyrics like that)PalmettoSon wrote:Tin Cup Chalice "get that Packard up and let's move" I always thought it was "get that Packard runnin' let's move" and I've seen it misquoted as "get that pack gear up and let's move"
Now I don't feel so bad lol.carolinagirl wrote:Same here! I listened to it today and it still sounds like LIVE LONG so I'm with you.carolinagirl wrote:tdparrothead wrote:Now I don't feel so bad lol.carolinagirl wrote:Same here! I second that. Another mistake I made for the longest is confusing "swimmin around" in Fins with "scoonin" then I convinced myself he was singing "schoolin." After really thinking hard about it I came up with the logic that fish swim in schools and it would make perfect sense for him to be saying "schoolin". It was one of those dumb days!!! I guess we all have them.karakeet wrote:Count me in the people that thought Jimmy was saying "Mangled Man" rather than "Mango Man". Clears a lot of things up now that I know the correct lyrics. As for Come Monday, for the longest time I thought he was saying "brown early haze".

Thanks for the new knowledge. I knew someone would educate me. So, let's live long in Leblon!!!One Particular Cheesehead wrote:![]()

Leblon is in Brazil...I think it's part of Rio, like a suburb or district.
