Yea thats true. I was hoping that we could get some decent starting pitching in return for trading Tino and Drew, but that didn't really happen. I have been to many opening days in the 80's and 90's but I couldn't see waiting out all night for tickets or paying top dollar for them, after all it is just game 1 of the season (or in the red sox case game 5).

In Cincinnati its a huge tradition. They have a huge parade downtown. Also lots of schools and businesses report a high number of absences that day. I have went for the past three years and it is a great time, especially when they opened the new stadium last year. Now if they could just field a competetive team....RAGTOP wrote:for us its just tradition.BottleofRum wrote:I have always wondered what the big deal was about going to opening day?

in mind back pre-mid civil war the sides of nines were what you took
your "intended" to you sat in a carrage and ate picinic and if you were real lucky you had acess to a cave or cold spring to chill the lemonade and
maybe just maybe the beer with. fast forward few of us are luckey enough to have an S/O that will even go to the game let alone help our oft
drunken @sses sing "take me out to the ballgame" and the start of a new year is one of the reasons young men (and older) have no attention span
during the spring. We love this game and the hope and promis of each new year is a big part of why we do.
I do not mean to mock you but you either get it or you don't

For me, opening day not only signifies the beginning of baseball season which is of course, very cool, but it's also my official beginning of spring! It's still cold as hell here til April anyway and being able to see regular season baseball just gives me that warm happy SPringtime feeling!BottleofRum wrote:I have always wondered what the big deal was about going to opening day?
I've never been to opening day and REALLY wanted to go this year, but the Mets open in Atlanta so I've gotta settle for Opening Day at Shea on April 12th. Still can't wait!!!
