Thanks! My grandmothers both lived into their 90s, but both grandfathers died relatively young, in their very early 70s. In fact, the grandfather who attended the 1918 World Series died six months after the 1967 World Series.... I bet he's watching this with particular interest.IsleReef wrote:Yeah, I know what your saying....... I miss my grandparents, they were the best...... I don't know - it just seems a Red Sox win will be good for baseball!!!! Then hopefully we can get Jimmy into Wrigley next summer to gag the goat, setting the stage for the Red Sox to defend their title against the Cubbies, but to no avail!!!!! And when that happens, we can pretty much count on Hell ophicially getting it's License to Chill!!!!

I'd love to see him play Wrigley too. I've never been there and I'm not that much of a baseball fan that I'd travel to Chicago to see a game. But I'd sure as hell travel there to see JB (and Heather).Tiki Bar wrote:SchoolGirlHeart wrote:um... well... um... ah... minor detail......LIPH wrote:Isn't red also the Cardinals' color?SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Perfect!!!!!Tiki Bar wrote:WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! That dawned on me too - but mine is Red Sox red, not Cardinal red! And, my socks happen to have red in them too... so there!!!!

27 Outs
"They'll be the 27 hardest outs we're gonna make all year." - Curt Schilling
The Boston Red Sox are 27 outs away from winning the World Series.
Twenty-seven outs away from retiring the "19-18" chant.
Twenty-seven outs away from having eight and eighty-year olds dance for joy.
And cry for the same reason.
Twenty-seven outs away from Babe Ruth being just another dead Yankee.
Twenty-seven outs away from Ted Williams smiling in heaven. And swearing at Joe Dimaggio.
Twenty-seven outs away from Johnny Pesky holding a trophy, and not the ball.
Twenty-seven outs away from Dom DiMaggio dialing Bobby Doerr's phone number and talking for an hour.
Twenty-seven outs away from Derek Lowe mirroring Joe Dobson's career-best game five performance in 1946 versus St. Louis.
Twenty-seven outs away from the new Impossible Dream.
Twenty-seven outs away from vindication for Tony C, Rico, Yaz, and Gentleman Jim Lonborg.
Twenty-seven outs away from glory.
Twenty-seven outs away from becoming the New Big Red Idiot Machine.
Twenty-seven outs away from Carbo and Fisk's home runs not going for naught.
Twenty-seven outs away from one for Luis, Dewey, Freddie, the Rooster, and the Spaceman.
Twenty-seven outs away from Bucky Dent going back to being just another crummy .247 career hitting shortstop.
Twenty-seven outs away from forgetting the name Mike Torrez.
Twenty-seven outs away from being one strike away.
Twenty-seven outs away from forgetting the Steamer's wild pitch.
Twenty-seven outs away from restoring Bill Buckner's legacy as a career .289 hitter, with 2715 career hits and the 1980 Silver Slugger award.
Twenty-seven outs away from Dan Shaughnessy having to invent a new phrase.
Twenty-seven outs away from forgiving Wade Boggs and the horse he rode in on.
Twenty-seven outs away from hoping Grady gets another chance.
Twenty-seven outs away from Aaron Boone being a question mark at the hot corner for the Cleveland Indians in 2005.
Twenty-seven outs away from someday retiring No. 21 and forgiving Roger for the Blue Jays and the Yanks.
Well, two out of three ain't bad.

I'm not really sure what your so confused about. There's two reasons and two reasons only that the Cardinals only scored 3 runs in the last two games.iuparrothead wrote:They have flat out suckked!!! I don't doubt that the Red Sox are really that good... BUT... where the hell are the Cardinals??? Are the Red Sox that much better or are have the Cards just not showed up??? How can a line up with Renteria, Walker, Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen not show up? I'm stunned...
Reason 1: CURT SCHILLING (The best big game pitcher on the planet)
Reason 2: PEDRO MARTINEZ (He remembered how good he could be last night)
Great pitching always, always, always beats great hitting.

Yeah, but in addition to having a great 1, 2 punch your team also has to score runs. As I recall the Braves generally choke in both catergories come playoff time.CaptainP wrote:Great pitching ALMOST always beats great hitting.st.somewhere wrote:I'm not really sure what your so confused about. Best pitching staffs entering this year: Houston, Oakland, Boston, Chicago. 2 missed the playoffs, one lost to a team with better bats. Only Boston survives.

No, that's cool...
