You're right... I am a little over-confident... but after watching what some consider as the 5th best starter in the Cubs rotation nearly pitch a no-hitter yesterday, it's hard not to be confident!

And I have noticed how well the Astros are playing right now too... I'm just counting on them to implode sometime in August, just in time for the Cubs to win the division!

But didn't they play the Mets, the 5th best team in the NL East the last 2 years? It's no great accomplishment beating the Mets, or even coming close to pitching a no-hitter against them.

The team you pitch against does not matter when it comes to a no hitter. You have to get 27 people out in a row with the odds saying that someone will get a hit. Hell, Nolan Ryan pitched a no hitter against the Tigers in 1973, that does not diminish his accomplishments!

You don't have to get 27 people out in a row, that's a perfect game not a no-hitter. There's more luck than skill when it comes to a no-hitter, or else there would be a lot more of them.

BTW, I did a little research on no-hitters and I found something that said there are 58 pitchers in the Hall of fame and only 30 of them ever pitched a no-hitter so a lot of no-hitters were pitched by average to below average pitchers. My own Mets have been around since 1962 and they've had some great pitchers over the years but none of them has ever thrown a no-hitter while pitching for the Mets.
