I was not a Chesney fan, but my wife was. I have really grown to like him as of late, so much that I now have his songs on my iPod. I like his light hearted "island" songs. He has a fresh energy to him and in those songs. The only thing I can't stand is his "cry me a river" country, the girl broke my heart now I am gonna cry stuff (but that is country music). But that said, I think Kenny could protentially evolve into the next JB type, in a way. When Bubba is done touring us Parrotheads (especially us 20 something PH's, we won't have JB into our 50's) are not going to have anyone to go see on a yearly basis, so I am hoping Kenny does some more of those "island" songs that every ones calls, cause I really dig them and wouldn't mind if he turned into a sorta younger Bubba. Not that he could ever replace JB, but I like good music, and I like JB's style, and Kenny's version of JB's style, if Kenny adopts that into more of his songs, I will grow to like him more too.

I don't think Buffett (or Kenny Chesney for that matter) have a patent on mixing island sounds with country but a good case could be made for Buffett at least being one of the innovaters. Just look at all the pale imitations that followed the overwhelming success of "Margaritaville" back in the 70s. As for Kenny Chesney, count me in on the side that can't stand him. Most of what he does and what passes for country music these days in general isn't even country at all but a watered down pop music version of it for the masses. I'll keep listening to Steve Earle, Tift Merritt, the Gourds, the $2 Pistols, the Old 97s, Hank III and other artists that can't get played on country radio because they're "too" country whatever in the hell that means. All I know is, it's a sad state of affairs when the very people that helped invent country music such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and George Jones can't even get airplay on a format they helped create. Merle even had to resort to recording on a punk rock label because Nashville won't give him the time of day anymore and Loretta is about to start recording with the White Stripes. That's a very gutsy move on her part and one I look forward to hearing but it sure as hell won't get any airplay on today's so-called "country" stations.

I ENJOY BOTH BUFFETT AND KENNY CHESNEY'S MUSICAL STYLES (ALTHOUGH I DO AGREE THAT KC'S LAST ALBUM AND SOME OF BUFFETTS SONGS ARE VERY SIMILAR). BEING A LONG TIME FAN OF BOTH I CAN APPRECIATE KENNY'S ABILITY TO EVOLVE AND GROW AS AN ARTIST. I THINK HIS MUSIC SPEAKS ABOUT WHERE HE IS IN HIS LIFE RIGHT NOW AS DOES EACH OF HIS PREVIOUS ALBUMS. JUST THOUGHT I'D GIVE MY TWO CENTS.... :D

Just want to say one more thing on this topic. Everyone here knows that Jimmy preaches the "Write what you know about" theory when it comes to writing his music. This is evident in most of his albums. FSOTW comes first to my mind. The same thing is true with Kenny. He did his No Shoes album shortly after he broke up with his then Fiance, thus the "Brokenhearted cry me a river" songs that dominated the album. He then spent a lot of time down in the Islands just as Jimmy did when his first marriage went sour. This time spent in the Islands is now coming out in the form of his When The Sun Goes Down album.

We mean he sings those sad songs, not that he actually sings that song.

By the way, where did you get that graphic on the left?

I for one think it's great that Kenny, Alan, and other country singers are getting into Jimmy's gen're of music. I would like to see Jimmy's Caribbean rhythms become and stay a "style" of music for many generations to come. So here's a big "thank you" to Kenny and Alan.

BTW, the wife just bought me a Pucah (sp?) shell necklace this past weekend. Now all I have to do is get a damn tan so I can wear it and it you can actually see it on me!

Parrotheadism is spreading and in today's world I guess that's a good thing.
I like Kenny's music too and since he is mainstream he gets a lot of pub but I prefer the lesser known independant Buffettesque acts (ie- Jim Morris, Sunny Jim, Hugo Duarte,Eric Stone, etc.)
The way I look at it, The more island music, the better!!!

I've stated this already, but Jimmy is Jimmy, there is no substitute. Kenny is Kenny, he has his own following. His concert is electric, you can feel the crowd excitement. Both seem to respect each other enough..................to do some songs together and have a few laughs. It is fine with me if we have some BN's that don't like Kenny for whatever reason. My point is he is on a roll with or without Parrot Head approval, although he is one, for some reason some think that is wrong. I say good luck.

Me too!! It's just getting too hard to get tickets!! I've been a fan for years and now hardly stand a chance of seeing a show.
