Funny someone should mention Jimi Hendrix. One of the first times I was listening to their first album a friend of mine thought it was Hendrix.

SAMMY HAGAR TO OPEN CABO WABO™ CANTINA IN HARVEYS RESORT CASINO AT LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA
First Cabo Wabo Cantina and Nightclub on U.S. soil to open with three-night Grand Opening Weekend April 30,2004

Lake Tahoe, NV (March 18, 2004) – Rock vocalist/guitarist Sammy Hagar will open the first U.S. based Cabo Wabo Cantina on Friday, April 30, 2004 inside Harveys Resort Casino at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Nicknamed “Taho Wabo,” the Cabo Wabo Cantina and retail store will be located in Harveys Resort Casino, while three, grand opening weekend performances starring Sammy Hagar will take place across the street at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe’s legendary South Shore Room. On April 30, May 1 and 2, the famed Harrah’s showroom will be transformed into the “Cabo Wabo Nightclub.” Harveys and Harrah’s Lake Tahoe are owned by Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc.

Hagar will officially open the doors of the Cabo Wabo Cantina at 11 AM, Friday, April 30. The Cabo Wabo Cantina will be open for lunch, dinner and a late-night club scene seven days a week. The Cantina will serve the finest in Mexican specialties and a diverse offering of wines, beer and spirits, including one of the largest selections of premium tequilas and new and innovative tequila-based cocktails exclusive to Cabo Wabo.

Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas will perform on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st, while Sunday, May 2nd will feature “Sammy Hagar and Friends.”

With Sammy working closely with Don Marrandino, Senior Vice President of Harrah’s Northern Nevada, the Tahoe-based Cabo Wabo Cantina went from casual conversations to reality.

“Having my first Cantina open in the States is a dream come true,” states Hagar. “The creation of Cabo Wabo has brought me happiness, success and many rewards over the years. Bringing the Cabo Wabo to Tahoe is something Don and I both plan on making this town rock with.”

“Harveys and Harrah’s are creating a home for Cabo Wabo and Sammy, his thousands of fans around the world and the thousands more that will come to learn the Cabo Wabo way of life,” said Marrandino. “Cabo Wabo is a key component of our continuing strategy to create more excitement, more attractions and a broader appeal to Tahoe. We are looking forward to a long and successful journey with Sammy.”

The first annual “Cinco de Cabo™” celebration will take place in conjunction with the opening of the Cabo Wabo Cantina. The south shore of Lake Tahoe will participate in a town-wide street fair with a cross-section of food, live music and more on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.

The “Miss Taho Wabo” contest will take place on Saturday, May 1. Winners will become on-stage “waitresses” for that evening’s show, a fan-favorite and a featured part of Hagar’s concerts.

Heavenly Ski Resort will be celebrating the event by keeping the ski slopes open through May 2, offering discounts for all who mention “Cabo Wabo.” For additional information on room reservations and more, go to www.redrocker.com.

Since opening in 1990, the original Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas is now legendary and has established itself as the must-see, must-go destination for anyone coming to the resort town. Voted as one of the Top 10 spots in the world, it is, as Hagar puts it, “a monster that has a life of its own.”

The Cabo Wabo brand also lays claim as the Number Two premium tequila in the United States. “Born” in 1996, Cabo Wabo Tequila is the winner of numerous awards including Gold Medals and “Best of Show” for two consecutive years from the American Tasting Institute.

Hagar demands only one thing from anyone who comes to the Cantina. “Cabo Wabo is a lifestyle, something that requires only a willingness to enjoy your life and embrace all that makes you happy. That’s the reason the Cantina was created. Come and enjoy.”

Van Halen Tour To Bow In June

From Billboard.com:

Van Halen has confirmed the routing for its summer tour, as well as the return of vocalist Sammy Hagar after an eight-year absence. The group's official Web site features the greeting "Eddie, Alex, Mike & Sammy Hit the Road" as well as a new photo of the foursome. The trek will play North American arenas beginning June 11 in Greensboro, N.C., and wrapping Aug. 19 in Los Angeles.

Van Halen -- guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony -- has not toured since 1998 and is currently without a record deal after splitting from longtime home Warner Bros. in 2002. The group is thought to be eyeing the release of a greatest hits album with a handful of new Hagar-voiced songs but no information has yet been confirmed.

Tickets for some shows begin going on sale April 3 via Ticketmaster.

Look for the new "Best Of" CD in June (8th most likely), with potentially three new tracks featuring Sammy on vocals (first of which is entitled "It's About Time").

I know I'm flogging a dead horse here, but I've gotten some more info and wanted to pass it along. According to Sammy, the VH brothers will NOT be at the Tahoe shows. Sorry.

Buffalo, NY
Madison Square Garden, NY
Richmond, VA
Cleveland, OH
Cincinnati, OH
Nashville, TN
Charlotte, NC
Columbia, SC
Atlanta, GA
Jacksonville, FL
Miami, FL
Tampa, FL
Birmingham, AL
Jackson, MS
New Orleans, LA
Little Rock, AR
Houston, TX
Dallas, TX
Albuquerque, NM
San Diego, CA
Seattle WA

Vancouver, CAN
Montreal, CAN
There are also rumors of a second Vegas show, as well as few more add on dates for the first leg.
More when I get it...

Maybe Van Halen will do Great Woods and we can tailgate with them. I have seen them at G.W. pretty good lot and fairly mellow crowd for some rockers like them.

As I'm watching David playing poker with Tony Soprano, it just reminds me that it's only really VH when Diamond Dave is fronting the band.

Now it's really just Van Hagar :-?

[quote="Lightning Bolt"]As I'm watching David playing poker with Tony Soprano, it just reminds me that it's only really VH when Diamond Dave is fronting the band.

Now it's really just Van Hagar :

You know what. I will agree Dave did help put the band on the map. But Sammy put them on the map of the universe, honestly you can't deny that Sammy is much more musically tallented than Dave. I think that Sammy is almost as good as a gutiarist as Eddie. What can Diamond Dave contribute.

As much as I prefer the Diamond Dave era of the band I think he's past his prime and is no longer a viable asset to the band. The article I saw in Rolling Stone not long ago about him doing one of his trademark high jumps and kicking himself in the head (which knocked him out) is only testament to this, not to mention the behavior I witnessed on VH1's Sam and Dave special from last year. That being said, the songs he contributed to on the last VH greatest hits album were among the best things they'd done since Dave left the band. Sammy may of brought them universal recognition but it was at the expense of losing the edge the band once had. I like some of the stuff Sammy has done with VH but all of it has a decidedly more commercial sounding, radio ready sheen that wasn't present before. As far as Sammy vs. Eddie on guitar, he's not even in the same ballpark much less the same league and I believe Sammy would be the first one to tell you this.

Van Halen Roll With Sammy

Hagar back at the mike after eight years

It's official: Sammy Hagar is again the singer for Van Halen . . . at least for the band's upcoming summer tour. Van Halen announced twenty-eight North American dates, their first since singer Gary Cherone split in 1999 and their first with Hagar in almost a decade.

The band will release a greatest hits album in June featuring the aptly titled new single "It's About Time," featuring Hagar.

Hagar replaced original singer David Lee Roth in 1985 and fronted the band through 1996, when he and guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony began a public squabble over whether Hagar quit or was fired.

Hagar also waged press battles with Roth, who has also been recently flirting with returning to Van Halen, but the two buried the hatchet and toured together in 2002.

Eddie Van Halen was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2001, but announced his complete recovery the following year. He has been working on songs for the follow-up to 1998's Van Halen III.
