We have 8 folks going to the party, but I think it starts at 4pm. What are folks doing before the Axis/Avalon thing? i orderd my tickets about 10 days ago and they have yet to arrive.

Frank,

Yes, 4PM at Avalon/Axis. From the postings, looks like Dick's Last Resort and the Tiki Bar might be good pre-Avalon venues. We *squeezed* into the TikiBar last year before Springsteen and it took a while to find a seat and get service. But 4 Scorpion Bowls later we were ready to rock! I would guess that it will be even more crowded for Buffett since it does fit the theme! We've got a teacher who can't call in 'sick', so we'll probably leave NH around 2:30 PM, hop a T, and head straight to Avalon. Might pick up some Krispy Kremes for the next day, since they are located at the T station we typically park at.

Any other NH folks heading down? Any buses? Where do pholks plan on parking?

Thanks,
Moe (in NH too)

Hey all...

can't wait to (hopefully) meet some of you BN'ers out there next weekend. Hubby and I are heading to both shows....we have plans already for Friday, but Sunday is open. We're bringing a couple of 'virgins'with us, and it's a total bummer that we can't give them a "true" buffett experience via great woods tailgate.

We'll probably end up hitting some bars on Sunday, then heading to the park. Has anyone heard about cover charge? I know some places are ticketed events, but I really hope the cover charges aren't ridiculous. It's already ridiculous that I have to buy drinks at a bar rather than bringing my cooler@!!!!!

I'm not sure about the bars in the IMMEDIATE area, but a short walk away (less than 5 min.) there are plenty of bars with no cover. Most of them are Irish Pub type places some with outside tables and some with big windows which open on the sidewalk.

Another good option, although a little further (maybe 10 min. walk) is Dicks Last Resort. This is a FUN place anytime you go and I've read on this site that some parrotheads are going to go there which of course will only make it better. Here's the link..

Dicks's Last Resort is walkable to Fenway. Probally a 15-20 min walk. It is a good Buffett bar with food and big drinks.

I forgot about the big drinks. The beers are so big they serve them to you in a pail of ice so they'll stay cold!!

Got my tickets today, via Fed-Ex, for the Avalon party. Say's on the tix that they open at 2:00 or it starts at two. That should give a few hours before for the Tiki Bar. Anyone know when they open?? How about AFTER the show? It will still be early.

Tiki bar

I was at the Tiki bar before the Sox game on Saturday and they told me that they will be opening at noon, with no covercharge(the only place around with no cover). The bartender said that he plans a 14 hour shirft, so i assume that means they are open until at least 2am!

Calling it Boston Buffett Club. Should be a great party. They’ve got a band for both days and it’s an absolutely beautiful club. We are planing a 40th birthday party for my wife along with the concert. Looks like we will be holding it here on Sunday. Stop by if you’d like.
Boston Billiards has $1 Miller Lite Drafts...great pre-party place.

Tequila Rain, Jillians and Lucky Strike are all on Lansdowne, opening at noon and do not have covers before the shows. After the show on Friday they will have a cover, after the show Sunday, still no cover. Those are all behind the Green Monster.

Other good bets are:
Boston Billiards - big, $1 miller lights, great bartenders and good music
109 Brookline - formerly BB Wolfs
Boston Beer Works - good micro brew - no domestics
Cask, Baseball Tavern & Whos on First are all good but they are smaller and prob won't have the atmosphere that Jillians/Tequila Rain will have

If you don't mind a 10 minute walk ($8 cab ride/$1.25 T ride), head down Boylston St. - there is Cactus Club, Whiskeys, Foggy Goggle, Vaux, and a ton more bars without cover charges before the shows.

Beware though: get to the bars really early both days. Judging from Sox playoffs in the Fenway area, all the bars are going to be filled very early. There are thousands planning on just being around the area and at the bars without tickets.

Hey saw Peter and Jim last night......AWSOME.......anyhow asked Peter about friday and they are going to try to make it over to avalon/axis but might not be able cause of the sound check, I told him to tell Jimmy he had a party to go to and he laughed at me. And he said Sonny Landreth and Billy Payne are going to be playing with the band!!!!! should be great!!!
