There's an article written by the Herald editorial staff about the two Boston Shows at Fenway

All of this ought to leave Parrotheads fightin' mad. Maybe it's time Buffett just picked up his guitar and moved this show down the road - back to the Tweeter Center where life was good, no one got hassled and the idea of "wastin' away again in Margaritaville'" - if only for a couple of hours - didn't send officials into a panic.
From the Herald's lips to Jimmy's ears. :P

This article speaks on behalf of most of the Mass. Parrotheads I've talked to. Great Woods has gotten to be such a tradition around here and I know a lot of people who'll be dissapointed if things change. What alot of people don't realize it that its not about just drinking - its about being able to relax in a worry free atmosphere and appreciate the state of mind "Margaritaville" really is.

Hopefully if Fenway happens it will only be for this 1 summer. I'll see you all at Fenway regardless but this year I'm taking a few trips out of town to participate in a little parking lot mayhem somewhere else.

Without having been to either venue, I'll agree that Great Woods is the preferable option to many based upon word of mouth alone.

However, you even said it yourself....Margaritaville is a "state of mind"...it can be experienced anywhere....heck, I'm experiencing it in my cube at work right now!

Jimmy "moved our cheese" in southern California as well.....taking the Irvine show indoors to the Pond (which will apparantly happen again this fall). Although I'd personally prefer the outdoor atmosphere, the parking lot environment, and the history of Irvine....we went to the Pond with an open mind and still had a great time (and sure we will again this year).

This is obviously a major desire of Jimmy (or his management company) to play Fenway....otherwise, they would not be going through the extensive effort to get this approved. If approval is not granted, it wouldn't surprise me if Boston fails to get a show this year....the market may be left "in the cold" in hopes the city will change its mind and grant Fenway dates in 2005.

Don't let this possible move ruin your concert experience (or your summer)....if it happens, make the most of it and go with an open mind....I promise you can enjoy yourself if you do this.

The Boston Phoenix airs this dissenting opinion:

excerpt:
"The latest move — a proposed "Parrothead Village" on Yawkey Way open only to ticket holders for two Jimmy Buffet concerts in September — goes too far."

they close off a section of Yawkey Way about 30 yards long for Sox games. Why would that upset you? There are no residences near it, unless you live in the souvenir shop

Yeah... they do it for every game.

A friend of mine said he used to go to Fenway and if he couldn't get tix he'd drink at a bar on Yawkey. Now he can't even do that.

why can't he do that? He doesn't need a ticket to go to Who's on First on Yawkey Way.

I'm pretty sure it longer than 30 yards, and it seemed to me that there were apartments above many of the retail establishments on the closed section. Many of the windows had curtains, ect. and looked residential to me anyway.

Even if they succeed in having some type of Parrothead Village or whatever, because of the massive conjestion around Fenway, only a thousand or so would be able to enjoy it. I think about 50,000+ went to see Springsteen last year so obviously it will be a private party to whoever gets there first. Where will everyone else go? I really don't see being indoors at the Flaggon or Copperfields being as comfortable as my beach chair at Great Woods.

Buffett fans will have fun no matter what and make the best out of whatever their given. However, people won't be able to walk around and check out the different bar set ups, pickup truck swimming pools or other activities that the fans make available to everyone and anyone who wants to check something out. People everywhere will offer you a cheeseburger or a margarita for nothing more than a "thanks" in return. Seeing all how creative (and dedicated) parrotheads can get around Labor Day Weekend is something that will be missed.

I don't know the exact length, lets just say it takes me about 20 seconds to walk from 1 end to the other end... it's not long  I think you may be thinking of the apartment complex/hotel right at the end of the ticketing section, there is also a parking lot there. Above the souviner shop/pizza/sausage place is a warehouse. I'm not sure what is above Who's on First but it looks condemned.

it really has gotten mixed reviews. There is nothing great about it, everything they sell in the ticketed area you can buy outside of the ticketed area (except beer). You can drink outside though and thats neat :D
