My Dad always said the only difference between a wedding and a funeral in our family was "One less guest"

I have been working on an adaptatiopn of Captain and the Kid for Dad, at 85 its inevitable. For me, I hope I can have the kind of life (less the death and dismemberment) of "He Went to Paris"

we Irish know how to party at wakes!
I want everyone to get drunk and tell stories about me and laugh...well, they do that now so I guess it won't be much different when I am gone!
As for a song...gott go with "Tin Cup Chalice"

Here's a funny story that now I really appreciate...

The song "Lovely Cruise" has always been the one I'd pick, but...a few weeks back I had a minor operation, I remember being wheeled into the "OR" and the radio being on, the nurse asked me if the radio station they had on was ok, cause we were waiting for the dr to finish lunch :o
well I looked at her and laughed and told her that it was fine, that I was a PH and if anything was going to happen to me, what better song to be playing...Yep..."LOVELY CRUISE"....it kind of scared me at first...but then I went with it....
thanks for letting me share my amusing story

Im not sure...I actually think OPH might be the one I want played.....

I've already planned my service.

Beach casual -- whatever that means to you
A Margarita machine (no alcohol in our county, but we can make virgin ones)
Absolutely no black allowed

I have given my music selection to my sister. Sixties stuff. Beach Boys. Temptations. Marvin Gaye. Jimmy Buffett.

My BN buddies have assured me they will go up front and lead a concert version of FINS.

Then - - -

Southern Cross
Lovely Cruise
Tonight I Just Need My Guitar

I went to high school with the funeral director - - he thinks it's hysterical.

When you're three days older than dirt, you think about these things. :D

If, God forbid, I were to come home from a deployment in a box, there will be plenty of dark uniforms around. I'm trusting my PH friends to show up in aloha shirts!

I want a real, old-fashioned Irish wake, with Jimmy Buffett, Hugo Duarte, IZ, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and John Denver blaring. You gotta do the full version of FINS for me!

Here are the funeral selections, all the disparate pieces of who I am captured in a handful of songs:

The National Anthem, (I haven't asked Hugo yet, but I bet he'd play it for me  )
Proud to Be An American, Lee Greenwood
Patriot, Hugo Duarte
America the Beautiful
An American Soldier, Toby Keith
School Boy Heart
It's My Job (you think Mac would do a live version? :o )
Three Wooden Crosses, Randy Travis
I Shall Be Released, Joe Cocker cover version
Lookin' For Space, John Denver
I'm So Glad I'm Standing Here Today, Joe Cocker
My Country Tis of Thee
The Wind Beneath My Wings, Bette Midler
Somewhere Over the Rainbow, IZ
Somewhere Headed South, Hugo Duarte
Aloha Oe
Lovely Cruise
Navy Hymn
Amazing Grace, on the bagpipes, exiting the chapel and at the cemetery
Taps, at the cemetery

It's a pretty long set, but for those who never liked my music selections when I was alive, I'm gonna made them sit through them.... :wench:

(when you deploy, just like when you're three days older than dirt, you think about these things... )

It's amazing that this thread came up. My wife and I were talking about it just yesterday. We passed a "rollingRita" truck (you know, they bring the whole shabang to you). I told her, that's what I wanted at my funeral. Everyone is to have fun, I'll be in full tropical attire, shirt, shorts and flip-flops. I want OPHarbor (my favorite) lovely cruise, and He went to Paris. Tears (except for laughter), black clothes and sobriety STRICKTLY PROHIBITED. :D 8)
