I work in an elementary school as well, and I see names getting more and more varied by the year. I believe your keet's generation will be much less teased about their names than mine or yours was. If his were the only different name in the bunch, then maybe, but there are sooo many different ones out there, the kids pretty much accept it for what it is...a person's name. I heard a name recently which I though was cool--the boy's name was Paxton and he went by Pax. I think it was a family name, but I liked the whole 'peace' reference in it too. Good luck with your decision!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! Naming the keets ( Toby and Cameron) was probably the hardest thing to do. Will they get teased, can they spell it, can they say it and does it sound weird ? I grew up being teased slighty about being the place to go to the bathroom ( John) I ended up with nicknames anyway, patteroon, paroon, and finally JP, that one stuck and am still JP to this day, LOL. I kinda like Aylen though but I agree that both parents should love the name and if both dont then you should probably keep searching! We waited till after keets were born to name ours, didnt really have one we liked yet and we wanted to make sure that the name fit the personality of the keet before we decided for sure.

We named our son Nicholas, and by 2nd grade he asked us to shorten it to Nick. We named him after the sensible and fun-loving characters, both Nick, telling the stories in Hemingway's and F. Scott Fitzgerald's books. He LOVES his name, and you seem to see well-adjusted Nicks everywhere, even on "The Apprentice." There are lots of puns, like Nick names, in the Nick of time, Nick at Night, pick-Nick, St. Nick... So, we're happy with our choice. My husband and I went through several names, some he liked but I didn't and vice versa, until we agreed on Nick's. Good luck! P.S. He has a friend named Cameron.

Naming kids is tough, my wife and I have done it three times. We prefer and stuck with more traditional names but I know that isn't for everybody. As far as unique names go I do like Aylen. The best advice I can give is to choose a name that both of you like so it isn't a point of arguement or resentment at a later date. Congratulations and let us know what you decide.

AYLEN--COOL!!!!!
I think Aylen is an awesome name--not a popular everyday name yet not so off the wall the boy gets teased. Great choice. I have 6 kids and the 5 girls names start with A and the boy starts with a N. Couldnt find a boy A name I liked. Congrats and good luck!!

If it were me, I would just name him Island... still unusual, but no question on pronunciation.
Keep in mind this is coming from a mom of 2 daughters, who would have named our son Howard, after Howie Long. That's what my husband wanted, and Howie is a rather studly namesake! Of course, there's also Stern and Mandel to associate with, which are anti-studly!
Son #2 would have been Hayden...

Help With Our 'Keets Name!!
My youngest daughter's (who is now 6) name is Shelsie. I got the name from "Delaney Talks To Staues". I must admit that I misunderstood the lyrics at first. I thought he was saying "Shelsie dreams float..."
I told my wife "Hey that would be a great name for our soon to be little girl". I'm not going to have the heart to tell her that Pop's messed up. Oh well, "life's good on our boat".

Congratulations to you both.
I like Aylen, sounds like a strong name. Unique enough, without being too creative. (although people will probably say aaylen not eyelen)
My friend's son, Zane, loves his name. Say's he's glad not being one of the 10 Luke's or 6 Connor's out there.
I like the name Owen... and Claire for a girl.

Phunminnie hates the name Ayslen. I love it. Should I lock her in the closet again until she changes her mind? Thanks for all the input...She likes boring names like mine (Jim). To quote Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles, imagine a 6 year old saying;" My names is Jim, but my friends call me...
Jim."
BORING
