I couldn't believe it. I was in Boston Market at lunch yesterday. On their background music system I thought I heard a familiar voice. They were actually playing some Buffett - it was Jimmy's version of Pacing the Cage! And then not 10 minutes later I heard Buffett again - this time The Wino and I Know!

I was shocked, not only to hear Bufffett, but it wasn't Margaritaville (I don't suppose they'd play CIP in Boston Market :D )

WOW! That's incredible.

You're right. Usually it is Margaritaville...

Actually where I work they play Buffett non-stop and my co-workers get upset because I know every song and they mock me for it...

I was in the Wrentham Outlet Mall the other day, and I heard "Don't Chu-Know" playing on their PA! Surprised the heck out of me! :D

I usually have to settle for "Cheeseburger", "Margaritaville", or "Come Monday". But I get the Dead's version of "Uncle Tom's Band", Van Morrison's version of "Brown Eyed Girl", Neil Young "Southern Cross", and of course versions of "Another Saturday Night", "Mexico", and others. I treat them as tolerable substitutes.

I was at Central Market a couple of weekends ago when Lone Palm came on over the speaker system. They proceeded to play the rest of the Fruitcakes album.

Just out of principal, I stayed in the store until the album finished.

At Ernest's in Shreveport. There was this guy playing the piano and singing in the bar. He asked me for a request and I said Jimmy Buffett. He played Margaritaville and everyone in the bar got up and danced.

That night I ate Shreve Snapper and steak - no chicken . . .

I would consider that a fringe benefit!

It's very rare to hear Jimmy on the air around here......and when I do it's of course typically M'ville, Cheeseburger or Come Monday. Once in a blue moon I'll hear Pirate Looks at Forty. I imagine they probably also still play 5 'oclock Somewhere too. Mind you though I don't really listen to the radio all that often.

p.s. I actually did have bbq'd chicken tonight.........

The place I hear Buffett most often is our local Chili's restaurant. I've heard several different songs, and almost every time I'm there, I catch at least one tune.

Does anyone know how they do the music in these retail-type places? Is it like the old-style piped-in "elevator music", satellite radio, DMX, or something like that?

Strangely enough, there used to be a Taco bell near my old job that also had something similar. They always had some channel on that had the best selection of alternative music I've ever heard...really non-mainstream stuff. It was pretty funny considering that 99% of that store's customers were elderly or complete rednecks!

Last night I ate at the Rainforest Cafe in Overland Park, Kansas. We were waiting to get in when I hear a familiar tune, they were playing Don't Chu Know! Didn't expect to hear that one
