Fellow Parrotheads,

I have been meaning to post this earlier this week, but s*** happens. Anyway, I am leaving for "Sin City" tomorrow morning at 8:00 from Newark, NJ and I am looking for the hot spots in Vegas that my family and I can hit while we are there (Saturday to Saturday).

Obviously, each day will begin and end @ Jimmy's Margartiaville Cafe, but where are some other good bars for a family of parrotheads to just relax and have a good and sloppy time.

I'm no help cause I have no kids and bars are secondary to gambling and shopping

But along the lines of kid stuff... NYNY has the Coney Island amusement park upstairs and Circus Circus has rides and stuff. Maybe your kids would be into that. I dunno.

Have fun. I just got back wednesday night from Vegas.

My comments and mine only, but:

You may be nuts for going to Vegas with a family. Especially for a week. The kids, assuming they are not of gambling age, will get bored quickly. It is no longer a family town.

And I just realized that I have never been to a bar in Vegas. I drink at the tables...

I do hope that you are an older family (by that I mean 21 & up). In that case you can easily find stuff to do.

Every casino is like its own little self contained entertainment bubble (that's their goal at least), so once you find one you like (Bellagio been berry berry good to me) you'll find plenty of stuff to do there. If your kids are under the gambling age, be sure to check out some of the non-gambling entertainment, Fountains of Bellagio (neat concept, unbelievably cool in real life), Treasure Island Pirate Battle, Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden (if ya likes the big cats), Freemont Street downtown (a must see), etc. Someone else mentioned NY, NY, and that is a really cool place to hang out as well. Have fun, win big, and stay away from the slots! Those things have the worst odds, and are the casinos' biggest money makers (you see so many, because they earn so much). Oh yeah, even if you aren't a serious gambler, aske to get rated, and buy all your chips up front. Part of the rating system is based on how much you change into chips (or checks as they like to call them) up front, you can always cash them in immediately, thisisn't tracked as much, and you may earn a free meal or two this way. (Beware, having the chips may make you feel compelled to use them, if you are in this boat, just change your cash as you need it.)

Thanks for the input thus far...but yes we are an older family. I am the youngest (24) out of the six of us going. My brother and I will be exploring much of the night life.

Honestly, all the talk about kids made me break out into a cold sweat. I am a long way away from that plank right now.

Go see Jimmy Hopper play at the Fontana Bar at Bellagio!
He has a website that has his show times listed.........he's really good!
The bar overlooks the fountains, so it's pretty too.........

Call Tommy Rockers and see if Tommy is going to be playing in the bar that night.

Tommy plays every Friday and Saturday nite 10pm-2am

Many of the bars are of the nightclub variety. If you are in to that sort of thing, I've heard the Rio has a happening club, as does the Luxor (I think its called Ra.)

Check out Venice......it's always twilight at Las Vegas's San Marcos Square.

You'll be there a week, so be sure to rent a car and drive to Valley of Fire State Park.....it's only about an hour from Margaritaville. Beautiful red, red rocks. Buy an extra roll of film, you'll run out. Petroglyphs, coyotes, and desert silence, wow. If you leave Vegas early enough, you can do a circle drive through the desert and check out Hoover d*m the same day. We parked in a red zone behind Subway and picked up picnic stuff. There's a funky, filling, and cheap breakfast place in the older downtown block of Boulder City (? - the town just before getting to Hoover d*m) so you might choose to do Hoover d*m first.

Have a Perfect Margarita at Margaritaville, yum, yum. Report back about how much fun you had and what you did. We live vicariously here in Changes in Latitude Land!
