Four Play wrote:My wife had a GREAT idea - a lowcountry boil! I have to buy a turkey fryer but they're not that expensive.
From what I can tell there are about 50 people in our group. To feed that many I think we'll need the following;
15 pounds of kielbasa or smoked sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
40 ears of shucked corn, cut in half
1/2 bushel of crab legs
20 pounds of large shrimp, heads off
3 small packets of Old Bay seasoning
Who's in and what can you bring?
I can bring some sausage

Wish I had of known sooner cuz we ate the last of our shrimp last night

Anyway,
5 MORE DAYS!!!!!
FP, let me know how many packages to bring.....

Welcome to BN, and welcome to our party. If you send Angel Beech a PM she'll put you on the contact list. You know what to look for right?

Everyone just bring what you can - let me know so I can buy what we don't have (on Friday).
Why do I feel like we're missing something? Somebody give me a crazy idea that's not on the list already!

Ok, this may be a dumb question...but since some of us haven't been to Texas before...can you buy alcohol in the grocery stores, or is Texas like Minnesota and you have to go to an actual liquour store??? hahah...
Can't wait!!! Getting super excited!!!!
FINS UP!
You can buy beer and wine in most grocery stores and convenience stores here. I know you can in Southlake and Grapevine and probably Los Colinas too Help me out a little FP!

Alcohol availability varies - wet/dry cities and counties.
I'm pretty sure Irving is dry so is Las Colinas and Coppell.
Your best bet is Dallas there are some liquor stores along I-35 and Northwest Highway.
I did a Yahoo yellow pages search for liquor stores close to the Harvey (hotel near Texas Stadium)
This was the closest:
Centennial Fine Wine & Spirits, 1600 W Northwest Hwy Dallas TX 75220 (972) 556-0637
Closest one on I-35 (just north of where Loop 12 and Northwest Highway intersect I-35:
Centennial Fine Wine & Spirits
Address: 10967 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75220
Phone: (972) 556-0641
I don't know if you can buy beer in gas stations/grocery stores in Dallas. I'm headed down that way today or tomorrow to find exact directions to the Gold Lot. We're caravanning 7 vehicles, don't want to trust to the Texas Stadium directions. If I notice that gas stations sell beer, I'll let you know.

Hobbes - I didn't realize that Irving was dry.

Would hate for people coming in to be disappointed - I'll drive out there at lunch and post what I find. I'll also find the easiest way to the RV Lot and post the directions this afternoon.

Oh thank goodness

The directions would be wonderful to have! I will brainstorm about the crazy idea that is missing... Might take me a while since it is Monday

Where are you setting up

Where are you setting up? Do you plan to attend the Strait and Jackson portions of the show?

Good question!! I would be interested in the answer to this one as well. As a native Texan raised on country music, I'm looking forward to seeing King George; but I could really care less about seeing Alan Jackson again.

I've seen all three and never been a big fan of Alan's stage presence. However, I will probably go in and watch the whole thing. I would hate to miss anything special or if they did the "group" songs during each other's set.
Its not like the lawn shows in Atlanta where I have to worry about finding the best spot, but for $125 plus airfare I better get my money's worth.
96 degrees and the Hockey Game's on?

According to weather.com, it's supposed to be 96 degrees on Saturday. It may be a crazy idea, but who's bringing the air conditioning?
What's the humidity going to be like? I haven't experienced a "Steam Bath and a Show" since the Thursday Chicago concert a couple years back. Doesn't asphalt melt at that temperature?

While I know it's not unheard of for people to change a lineup order after it's been announced, my hope and expectation is that they will stick to the original plan. As it appeared in the press release, the lineup is as follows: AJ, GS, JB, then a set of mix-and-match with all three.
Just FYI . . .

I just got back from Texas Stadium. Tom Branniff runs north/south directly behind the RV Lot. Here is the easiest way to get there. There are blue Bus/RV signs pointing the way as well.
COMING IN ON 114 WEST FROM DALLAS:
Pass the stadium on your left.
Take the Tom Branniff exit and stay on the service road. Turn Left onto Tom Branniff (green sign says University of Dallas to the left).
Go Straight through the 4-way stop sign.
Turn Left on Texas Plaza. The RV Lot is on the right.
COMING IN ON LOOP 12 SOUTH FROM DALLAS:
The stadium will be on your left. Before you pass it, exit 114 West and stay on the service road. Turn left onto Tom Branniff. Follow the directions above.
Irving is dry (thanks hobbes404) but you can buy beer in the gas stations at Loop 12 and Northwest Highway, about a mile north on Loop 12. There's also a Hasty Liquor store at that intersection for the hard stuff.
I hope this helps!

Hello, I hope eveyone's Monday is well!
so my dad is back from his 7 1/2 month annual trek to Fla and the Keys.
His RV is a 38 footer and will be arriving @ Texas Stadium parking lot Sat morning.
Past Buffett tailgating has been only @ Starplex, without the RV, so the Texas Stadium thing is huge! I'm really excited. You guys sound like you've got a huge day or 2 ahead.
Currently, plans are to roll in Sat, find a spot, and set up camp - awnings, chairs, tables, grill, blenders, and speakers.
I look forward to meeting some pholks and doin a little drinkin.
We are all currently ticketless, and are looking to score tickets the day of the show. Hopefully, we'll get a few for face value or a little over.
Last time I looked on Ebay they were apprx 150 apiece. just couldn't swing it for a set of tickets.
So we'll carry cash and may NOT have to get something behind the stage
just a couple of days! we cant wait!!
